Trio of untried Tigers: Richmond team for Round 1, 2010

Richmond team for R1

Three players will step out in a senior AFL game for the first time for Richmond in Round 1.

Richmond Tigers Training Session

Richmond
FB: Shane Edwards, Kelvin Moore, Chris Newman
HB: Mitch Farmer, Luke McGuane, Will Thursfield
C: Dustin Martin, Brett Deledio, Ben Nason
HF: Tom Hislop, Jack Riewoldt, Richard Tambling
FF: Relton Roberts, Mitch Morton, Robin Nahas
Fol: Troy Simmonds, Daniel Jackson, Trent Cotchin
Int: Tyrone Vickery, Ben Cousins, Daniel Connors, Adam Thomson
Emg:: Dean Polo, Graham Polak, Matt White

Differences from round 1 projection:
In: Cousins, Roberts, Thomson, Hislop
Out: Polak, Shane Tuck, Troy Taylor, Alex Rance

How far Shane Tuck has fallen. Not even an emergency. I did get Taylor wrong for Roberts in guessing the three debutantes. I have been down on Polak all preseason, so it makes sense to me that Hardwick would go for Roberts instead of Polak in that forward line. The fact that Farmer has been named in the 18 ahead of Connors suggests that Connors’ job security is a little lower.

Thankyou, Damien Hardwick for picking non-mid rookies.

Not sure whether to be happy Kane Lucas will debut later as a possible downgrade, or sad that he won’t be a round 1 nuffie trap. Interesting that Hadley isn’t even an emergency. Hard to say who in that team is the designated seat-warmer, might depend on performance by Yarran, Anderson and Houlihack.

Also a big HA to anyone who bought Ratten’s nonsense about not playing Kreuzer forward, unless naming him at FF is a ruse…

Why is Tuck not playing. I don’t want to have a crack a hardwick in round 1 but how did thompson get a game before him…….. Not Happy at all.

Nason starting in the middle, is he a tagger? How many games do you expect him to play? Could be a better option than the other cheap defenders.

bit early probably to call Nason over Leslie but Nason is certainly in favour down at Tiger land and if he shows some form could play alot of games. Ive had him for a while and would pick him over Leslie now that he is picked in the centre round one. Get on him!!

    @ Arky

Armfield (when match fit) will fit back in there as well as Judd, personally I think Anderson & Yarran are the shakiest, unless they find a match-up for Anderson each week.

    @ TigerFever

Tuck was axed straight after the Hawk loss and only played 1 of the NAB Challenges – which also happened to be the one that they rested 13 of the Rd1 22, including all midfielders bar Jackson. Thomson didn’t look too bad against Dons, got a few clean clearances, does need to find the ball a lot more though.

    @ Jeesh

Nason isn’t a tagger, he plays HFF/wing. My only concern is I’ve seen his last 2 games and they were poles apart: against Collingwood (1st game back from the knee) he played at least half the game if not 3/4s and looked lost – did a lot of running around, but got nowhere near the ball most of the time. Against Essendon however, he looked very good – he found space out on the wing, his disposal was generally good and he won a fair bit of his own ball as well.
