True, I thought Graham would play instead of him. I didn’t really know anything about Browne.

That $50k thing is wrong, you get all the cash you leave in your kitty at round 1.

March 25, 2009 at 9:17 pm
Benii, I reckon he meant only having $50,000 leftover in the bank just as a recommendation. You can leave as much there as you please, but it’s probably best to spend as much as you can to improve your squad. Up to you of course, some people like to have money ready for their first trade.

Monty – whats the news at Hawthorn with the kids – thorp/whitecross/suckling & some others.
Is is a point that it doesnt really matter, because as the seniors trickle back in, they’ll drop one by one ?
Sucklings PS form looks to be the best of the bunch.
Thanks

does anyone think that grimes is worth puting on the bench for a few weeks. does anyone have new info on the injury? 2 weeks maximum????

March 25, 2009 at 10:06 pm
@ Pete & Monty,
Sorry if you misunderstood what i was trying to say.
I was just recommending that if you leave more than $50K or so in the bank you may not have used your funds to their full potential.
I was not at anytime trying to suggest that it was s/c regualtion that you could keep $50K max.
I had a guy in my office put together his squad and had 4-5 million left bcoz he thought the game was about making a squad with as much money left over as possible.
Apologies if i lead you up the garden path.
@ DC
You were spot on mate, thanks for the support there.

Sweet thanks Brad.
yeah i have 37 k remaining in a squad i am pretty happy with and was unsure if it would go to waste.

Should i name Scarlett as my captain this week… because Hawthorn always kick it to Franklin so Matty wil surely get alot of kicks too. Or would it be better to name a midfielder, maybe Judd or Cousins??
Flash

Monty are you gunna be putting the teams on here as soon as they are availible tomorrow?? If not does anyone know the best place to see them??
Flash
March 25, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Would be a gutsy move to make scarlet captain Rupert.. Midfielders are probly your best bet or look for gun players playing crap teams.. Im leaning towards port players this week cause i think they will smash essendon

I suggest keeping at least 200k in the bank for the start of the season to give you flexibility to jump on anyone who bursts out of the blocks early.
I used to keep 10%, ie 1 million in supercoach for upgrades early, especially if you haven’t seen many preseason matches. It allows you to hop on or off anyone for almost the entire year without having to forcibly trade down for money.
It dosent really affect your average that much, but your swings are bigger, you’ll prob do better in you league but worse with overall ranking with this system.
Just pointing out that keepin cash in the bank is a viable tactic.

“It dosent really affect your average that much”
Maths not your strong point?
If you keep $1m in the bank you’re average will be less as your scoring potential will be less. Even $200k will make a significant difference.
Flash
March 25, 2009 at 11:35 pm
Not true Cam… If you find a $200000 player that averages the same as a $400000 your average is the same but youve got $200000 in the bank… Find a few of them and you have a tidy bank account. I started with $800000 in the bank last year and came 39th overall in supercoach.

Flash: yes, I will be posting teams here as soon as I can get them. I will also be doing a live video podcast starting around 4:30pm tomorrow which will take us through much of the 160 minutes of madness, at the least until all the teams are in (and until the VS servers melt).
Also I will be doing v8 of my teams projections this evening.

@ Pete,
Obviously there are mixed opinions about how much cash to leave in the bank.
I personally think $200k is way too much but if you are happy with your squad and you have $37k left over then there is no need to make any changes anyway.
Good luck.

For all those wondering on Hogan, this is from the AFL website…
As a sign of how fierce Friday night will be, Geelong will play no first-gamers.
“It’s our first game, we’re playing a team that’s a good team, that we really want to do well against, I don’t think throwing them in against a team like Hawthorn is necessarily a good thing,” Thompson said.

All depends on cousins’ fitness ax. Lockyer will play 22 for OK scores but if the little cokehead gets his motor running – look out. I’m taking a risk on the crack whore.

“In brighter news for the Roos, draftees Liam Anthony and Jack Ziebell will debut in the side’s season opener against Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.
‘It’s a real look to the future,’ coach Dean Laidley said. ‘I think [supporters] will be really excited to see those two take the field.'”

He would have been lynched if Anthony and Ziebell didn’t play round 1, that’s not the point. WHAT ABOUT ROUND 2 DEAN? That’s his trick (see also Thompson, Scott).
Mark Harvey confirmed Hill will be in the 25 but refused to confirm he will be in the 22. Great mindgames there Harvs. For your next trick, confirm that Pavlich will be in the team but refuse to confirm what position he’ll play, that’ll learn ’em.

Anyone would think that we were just about to land at Omaha Beach 1944, such is the anxiety & fear in the room.
I can hear fantasy coaches vomiting all over their lounge rooms as they naviagte through the swells and getting ever so close to the shore line only to be greated by the deafening sounds of servers crashing.

Fevola is playing.
Good luck tonight, Monty. With the DT site crumbling, DT Talk KO’d, how do you think your site will cope? Every man and his dog will be using you Live Scores feature tonight.
Remember in the NAB Cup, there was a game where scores kept reverting back to the 17 minute mark in the 1st Quarter? And everyone kept hassling you? But it wasn’t your fault, it was GameDay/Champion Data, which you feed through. If they struggled with traffic in the NAB Cup, what’s it going to be like tonight in the sold out blockbuster, season opener?

Awesome. Unfortunately I’ll be working when the game is on, so I’m going to miss all the fun.
