Anything would be a relief after round se7en, so this week’s selection news is mostly about happy returns… mostly.

Kane Cornes – what are his chances of playing?
JOSH
May 14, 2009 at 6:09 pm
i pray that kane kornes plays
wondering if i should trade m.brown for Siedbottom
The Bomber
May 14, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Ziebell isnt actually out…he has been put on the emergency bench so i dont think he is injured…he still stands a chance of playing
i hope that either higgins or ziebell get recalled (as the are both emergencies for there sides) cause with malceski out i couldnt trade them 🙁
Brad
May 14, 2009 at 6:13 pm
Whats the word on Higgins, Ziebell, Houlihan. How long are they likely to be out for? With those 3 and Garlett up forward would have 2 donuts. Sidebottom and a premium is an option. Is higgins the best one to keep? 15 trades left. Thoughts please.

May 14, 2009 at 6:18 pm
Ziebell hasn’t been named as emergency.
TR
May 14, 2009 at 6:19 pm
The Bomber, i think Grima, Jones and Riggio are emg. for North.
Ziebell definitely out, Higgins on the otherhand…wait and see
Walker also a wait and see
Brad
May 14, 2009 at 6:27 pm
Ziebell and Houlihan out, S. Johnson and Sidebottom in, plus 70k in the coffers. Wise move?
TR
May 14, 2009 at 6:32 pm
I can’t argue with that Brad.
Im thinking Ziebell to J. Brown – any takers?

@MONTY:
you’re not really trying with “eight is great”. Surely the standout headline is “eight is enough” ???

May 14, 2009 at 6:52 pm
why is higgins listed as an emergency? Surely he is in the dogs best 22 if he is fit?!?!?!
donny
May 14, 2009 at 6:56 pm
what do you think of these trades:
rich to power
dale thomas to sidebottom
Thoughts?

May 14, 2009 at 6:56 pm
Hodge, Houlihan, Ziebell, Higgins, arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Nathan
May 14, 2009 at 7:00 pm
Higgins to be given a last minute physical to prove his fitness. Im going to keep him on the park but ensure I have an emergency (or two)

May 14, 2009 at 7:21 pm
suss having richo still pared with higgins, thomas and ziebell in the forward line then hodge up back minimum 2 zeros already!

May 14, 2009 at 7:22 pm
Higgins will play I reckon

May 14, 2009 at 7:31 pm
What is everyone doing with Hodge?
I have 16 trades left so I’m thinking:
Hodge for Gilbee
william
May 14, 2009 at 7:33 pm
kane cornes will play.

@ Heater
Hodge will come good surely? Can you afford to park him on the bench?

@Keyboard – how about a play on words:
“More donuts to Eight”
Simon
May 14, 2009 at 8:04 pm
Absolutely delighted. Swapped Houlihan for Gilbee and Malceski for Grimes. Broughton and Brown playing means I have a full team against Sheeds, who has issues with Hodge, Tablett, Ziebell, Houlihan et al
Sheeds is in serious strife this week….
5 zip coming up!!!
Simon
May 14, 2009 at 8:05 pm
and Higgins!! Ha ha sheeds…

May 14, 2009 at 8:09 pm
Why wouldn’t the dogs start on Higgins in the 22? Even if he is in doubt? I have reserves in every line, so I’m gonna leave him out and not put him as an emergency. Unless Beams doesn’t make the final cut for Collingwood.

Pies Match Committee: “Hey Tony, you’ve got a groin this week ok…”
Out: Rocca (spud).
Pies tanking?
Nick
May 14, 2009 at 8:12 pm
Keep in mind that when Hodge returns in a month, he’ll be in better physical shape than he is now and will have the freedom to score more.
If I didn’t have him I’d be seriously considering bringing him in. As it stands, he’s going to warm the bench spot that Andrew Raines has been keeping warm.

May 14, 2009 at 8:15 pm
The bomber! Zieball is out with a knee injury he picked up at training! houlihan is in rattens bad books! higgens should play and kane cornes is fit to play! anyone with 13 trades and over are doing great and should start upgrading now! thanks
PIESBOY
May 14, 2009 at 8:17 pm
haha Splurge – no reward for tanking this year you idiot.
Pies will still make the finals – possibly top 4. We are inside the 8 with a mountain of injuries and playing terribly. Once we get all our guns back and firing, we will be a very dangerous side yet again.

May 14, 2009 at 8:23 pm
Malceski to Grimes anyone?
Splurge
May 14, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Ahhh PIESBOY – keep telling yourself that mate. So you’re losing because you are playing terribly…. maybe you are terrible?
Leigh Brown at CHF – still makes me laugh, every single week…. your depth must be pathetic
Raf
May 14, 2009 at 8:39 pm
I have Bock and Hodge, with Hill and Schoenmakers on the bench, but that’s my only donut unless there’s late withdrawals.
I have Moss and Rich in the midfield. I don’t see either as Palmer-style keepers. I would like to trade Moss this week, if I can.
About 20k spare cash in the bank.
Trade options:
1) Backline: Sideways Hodge e.g. Birchall or Sam Fisher
Mid: Downgrade Moss (Sheldon, probably) and lock away the money to upgrade Beams, Rich or Mitch Brown in the next couple of weeks.
My trouble with this is that it misses the boat on a couple of cheap mid premiums (Cooney as a decent keeper, Corey as an excellent one) and uses up a trade sidewaysing Hodge over a 2-4 week injury.
2) Def: Downgrade Hodge to Grimes
Mid: Moss to Joel Corey
The good- Joel Corey. The possibility of Grimes being a keeper for a lot less money than Hodge. Covering the donut.
The bad- Grimes could be a disaster area. Risky as hell.
3) Def: Downgrade Schoenmakers to Broughton
Mid: Upgrade Moss to Cooney
The good: Doesn’t blow a sideways on Hodge, turns a dead rookie spot into someone useful, Cooney is value at the moment (and hey, he COULD average 100 for the rest of the year, you never know…)
The bad: Sideways on a rookie, 2 rookie backs on field until Bock and Hodge return, Broughton’s job security, Cooney is not Joel Corey
I’m inclined for 2 or 3. 1 is the safe option, but there’s not enough upside. 3 is still pretty safe and has more potential to be great. 2 is the big gamble.
Splurge
May 14, 2009 at 8:41 pm
Cptain? I’m think Nicky dal, Corey or Bartel. Probably go with the Dome’s biggest bully – NDS.
PIESBOY
May 14, 2009 at 9:00 pm
Splurge – Leigh Brown at CHF makes me cry every week.
John Anthony, (fit) A Rocca, Rusling still to return as KPP in our forward line. Medhurst (all Australian), Leon Davis (breakout year), Alan Didak (pure gun) as small forwards to come back into our forward line
and maybe get your facts right before you start throwing around things like “tanking” that story got old 2 years ago – we are currently in the 8 – hardly tanking
Brendan
May 14, 2009 at 9:03 pm
I disagree with the title.
Last week: Ablett, Beams, Houlihan, Higgins, M.Brown.
This week: Hodge, Malceski, Ziebell, potentially Kornes.
Unless I trade I’ll be starting 3 blobs again.

good mov guys? does Winderlich ussualy get tagged?

May 14, 2009 at 9:11 pm
or houlihan to grimes, free up cash and get a better player for hodge?
Brad
May 14, 2009 at 9:18 pm
@ brady
im keeping hodge. the idea is to get premiums. i wouldnt trade unless they have lengthy injuries, ie hille and boomer. cover him if u can and he will be back fit and firing. (i hope)

way too many donuts for me to swallow this week. Wanted to hold Ziebell all year but that cow may have to be cashed this week. Have got the axe in hand – Does anyone know what his theoretical BE will be when he does come back??
Nick
May 14, 2009 at 10:05 pm
Rance to Grimes
Thoughts?

steven
May 14, 2009 at 10:23 pm
i was thinking skipworth to Sidebottom and either Houhilan, Petrenko or Dempsey to Grimes ???
Petrenko is most likely swap but Dempsey and houlihan letting me down !
Anyone with sound logical advice??
Heater
May 14, 2009 at 10:42 pm
@ steven – Skippy will be back next and will rise in price I reckon (he still has not peaked in price yet) Why not Dempsey to Hooker?
Some interesting comments re: Hodge. I might keep him I think.
Thinking of T.Walker to Sidey and then Houlihan to Gilbee…
steven
May 14, 2009 at 10:49 pm
@Heater – i thought about dempsey to Hooker as he is on the bubble and i could do with some cash but is he gonna play each week ?? Wont he get the boot once all regulars come back ??
Most likely Houhilan to Gilbee for me and Dempsey to either grimes or hooker this week and then skipworth or mitch brown to sidebottom and petrenko to grimes the same week!
