Round 20 teams

The flu has run through the Western Bulldogs this week, claiming Adam Cooney and Ben Hudson at the very least.

Monty – Change the title of your post – racist or defamatory words need not be written nor as subject titles. Please change this immediately and add an apology to all Fanfootyphiles.

In addition – To Tigerboy and Luketown – the racist undertones in your posts are unnerving.

If I call SPIZROCK a tool, would that be offensive to chainsaws? If you don’t like homophones, English is not a good language for you – time to find a new one.

    lol @schubes
I think most ppl on this site would be up with the current happening in football and therefore know where monty was coming from. Not racist at all, unless you choose to read it that way.
Give him a break, he only wrote it cos it rhymed

I can’t speak for m0nty, but I am sure it was not his intent to offend.
Forgiveness not hatred, equality not racism.
Laughter sounds the same in every language and I found the title to be a humorous attention grabber.

It’s not racist, muppets. Wogs have embraced the phrase and use it themselves. Wog is short for Western Oriented Gentlement, hardly offensive, is it!

Wog in the UK is usually regarded as a racially offensive slang word referring to a dark skinned person from Africa or Asia. It can be applied to any darker-skinned people, but is particularly applied to Afro-Caribbeans, as well as immigrants from the Indian subcontinent. Use of the word is discouraged in Britain, and most dictionaries refer to the word with the caution that it is derogatory and offensive.

I think this forum contains more than enough evidence to support a case for the banning of the English language. Time to revert to compulsory Latin, which is probably the only language unambiguous enough for the easily offended.

PS: Shorter Oxford Dictionary, Sixth Ed. Vol 2, p.3656
    wog noun. Austral. slang
A small insect; a germor organism causing infection, esp. influenza, dysentry, or a gastric complaint.

So, there. Wog means the flu, or the runs. You wouldn’t use the word ‘wog’ in reference to a gastric complaint afflicting cricketers, since cricketers getting ‘the runs’ is going to be funnier than any cricket wog jokes.

There are also two other definitions for ‘wog’. One is a transitive verb, which is slang for steal. The other is a noun, most of you seem familiar with. So, there are people so easily offended, that they write complaints when there’s a 67% chance they are wrong. There’s a word in the dictionary for that: ‘daft’.

Wog meaning an illness in Australian English

Wog is also used in Australia (less so these days) to mean a minor illness, so slang for a cold or the flu. Once the racial meaning became prevalent this lead the way open for bad jokes along the lines of Yesterday I was in bed with a wog punning on the previous meaning.

The derogatory nature of the term when used as a racial taunt succeeded in driving out use of the term wog to describe illness. Users of the term risked being labeled a racist by people not realising the context in which it was being used.

I could understand the edginess around the ‘wog’ issue if this were a soccer forum, but it isn’t.

…and lets not start on Adam Cooney’s racist surname.

Schubes, by the undertones in you comments I will bet you have never been overseas (probably because you can’t afford to) hence your justification for the legitimacy of the heading. You probably don’t have many friends and your mum is probably your sister. Football is probably the only thing in your life, not that it has much choice. Good luck to you.
