There are few surprises in the first of the two teams to be named today for the kickoff of the AFL season.
Carlton
FB: Bret Thornton, Michael Jamison, Aaron Joseph
HB: Paul Bower, Jarrad Waite, Jordan Russell
C: Ryan Houlihan, Marc Murphy, Heath Scotland
HF: Andrew Carrazzo, Lachie Henderson, Kade Simpson
FF: Setanta O’hAilpin, Matthew Kreuzer, Eddie Betts
Fol: Robert Warnock, Bryce Gibbs, Brock McLean
Int: Joe Anderson, Mitch Robinson, Andrew Walker, Chris Yarran
Emg: Shaun Grigg, Sam Jacobs, Kane Lucas
Differences from round 1 projection:
In: Anderson
Out: Richard Hadley
The lack of Lucas and Rohan Kerr is not surprising. Anderson, however, could be a bolter. Having only managed 12 games in the past three seasons, Anderson’s strengths as a half-back rebounder could feed into the retirement of Nick Stevens to mean he will play a lot more games this year. Priced at 44 in DT and 60 in SC – despite this underlining the quality of his disposal – means he will be more of a DT candidate if anything.

Kreuzer starting up forward. Not happy Jan.

Apparently Anderson has been brought in specifically to tag a player, which generally isn’t a role that aids itself to scoring well in DT. But we shall see what happens tomorrow…

Anderson on Deledio, Dunlop? One wonders why Grigg isn’t sufficient for the task.

Joseph is #1 tagger for Carlton isn’t he? Would assume Joseph for Deledio, and if they’re bringing in a second tagger for the occasion it’s probably for Cousins.
I don’t really rate Grigg, so if Ratten thinks Anderson has gone past him it doesn’t seem unreasonable to me.

@ Monty.
Very likely, either Deledio or Cotchin.
Given this Carlton BF poster was correct on Anderson (said he was in the side Tuesday night – and copped plenty for it), we’ll see whether his other 3 statements come to fruition:
* Gibbs to go to Deledio, possibly as early as the bounce, to attempt to break the (expected) Jackson tag
* Kreuzer to pop up in a new position: RR
* A early brawl to break out as Richmond will play the man as much as the ball to make a statement that they won’t be pushed around
