Blues coast it in: Round 10 review (Friday)

Round 10 review (Friday)

A goalless second quarter from West Coast proved the difference in a match that was over at half time.

Carlton Blues Training SessionCarlton’s midfield was the key to their success tonight with Marc Murphy, Kade Simpson, Chris Judd and Nick Stevens (when the game was still in the balance) all having a big night. Murphy’s 32 disposals and six tackles earned him the star of the game. But when you think about it, Murphy’s rise to premium midfielder status was inevitable. It just so happens that the most famous jumper ever worn by the Carlton Football Club was the famous light blue M&M promotion jersey. What are Marc Murphy’s initials? You guessed it: M&M. Coincidence or destiny? You be the judge.

In other areas, Paul Bower turned it on in defence for the Blues, notching up his first DT ton. Also, the Carlton forward line managed to score sufficiently with Brendan Fevola having 10 scoring shots and six big ones, including a Daicos-like one from the boundary. Yet the question remains to be asked: Who can stand up when Fevola is down on form? Although Brad Fisher scored three goals, it was an unconvincing display for mine.

On the West Coast side of the ledger, there is little to be said. Dean Cox, despite rumours of an injury, scored well but fell agonisingly short of a DT ton. He did not reach his breakeven this week and will go down in price. Mark LeCras is the only other Eagle worth mentioning: six goals in a losing team was a solid effort from the small forward. He was one of the few Eagles that actually looked like they might do something when the ball came into their vicinity.

Are Carlton still top four contenders? Are they indeed “coming”? Will Daniel Kerr get suspended? Is Fev back? Are you happy with your captaincy choices from this match? Feel free to have your say below.

Thanks Monty. I dont think many people remember to look down under the game/points table for your reviews! What do you recon about Bryce Gibbs? Chat pre game was that he would score big time, was that role played by NStevens tonight? Went with Gaz for skipper and still happy with then.
ps I had issues getting all of the coaches box from itunes this week…?

Good to see the Cox rumours were not true and he still managed to junk it up.

One of my opponents had 8 carlton players including Judd as captain! Might be difficult to catch now.

Good idea having the match blog person write a quick summary – nice work Fenez!

I don’t think Carlton are still top four contenders. They’re not “coming”, rather they’ll be up and down as they’ve displayed thus far. Is Fev back? You never know, could go either way – kicks 8 or gets reported. Had Gibbs (62) as ‘C’ over Rievolt just in SC, silly play.

Carlton are not top 4 but they could still make an impact in the finals. Due to their inconsistent nature they could well have an ‘on’ night against a Port type in the first/second week of the finals. Daniel Kerr is a bit of a non issue i think. WIthout other players to take pressure off him his impact is not really that significant. If Carlton can put a rookie on him and basically nullify him they any tagger should be able to do the job. I also went with Gaz as Captain. Glad I didn’t go the big cox. Your article about him maybe not being right scared the crap out of me.

Great work Monty keep it coming!

Good game by the blues but they will continue to be up and down this year as you can expect from such a young list. Joseph did a great job on Kerr and Bower would have scored a lot higher if he wasn’t moved onto Le Cras to stop his effect on the game. Fev won’t get sighted, lucky not to connect wth his elbow on Glass.

    I dont get it !

Some weeks we get 4-6 blogs, other weeks like this one nothing since post game on Friday night.

Some type of consistency would be nice.

    Hey Disco….

Yeh I know the kid has exams or something – I’d made a point few weeks back, and I know Monty believes that the traffic thru the forums is that much greater than the blogs – I realize it takes time & effort to do the blogs, but I’d suggested that 5-6 guys on here would probably love to write some blogs and take the pressure of him.

There are sooooo many Fantasy sites – but FF was always consistent and wasn’t ‘just’ about forums – you knew approx when a certain blog was coming and we’d all comment on it. I liked that consistency. And I think thats what drove the traffic here in the first place – if you want forum heaven, you’ve got BF – but if you want a site that….and this sounds corny….was kind of ours – where it was the same 100 guys tit for tat etc, and you could actually make comments to Monty and he’d answer them – the FF lead the way.

The last month or so though…its either all or nothing.

Just think that each week should be somewhat consistent – it was only last month that a few blogs came back by popular demand – rookies etc…..and then bamn – it never appeared again.

    Man I can waffle…..sorry lads….oz

exactly wat i was thinking simon0z

loved the old days of montys blogs when every week thered be the dedicated rollercosters, boys on the bubbles, injury discussions, just all around reliable info that you knew was coming from a trusted source. but with the drop in weekend wrap ups theres just come a drop in any sort of output from the blogs.

the forums here are rubbish, its just any old person talking crap tryin to trip unsuspecting people up, the blogs are more like where the boys sit around having a drink discussing real matters.

in conclusion, consissstenccyy with the great blogs please monty!

@SimonOz – maybe a weekly guest blog, I’m sure he’s open to volunteers. Perhaps m0nty adds his view at the end of the guest blog or in the comments.

@smitbr – Anyone with FFGenie should be able to do the RollaCoasta blog for him.

    That works disco.

Just some consistency would be nice – 2-4 blogs a week that are actually blog worthy.

    Looking back:
After rd 10 we had one blog, Carlton post game.
After rd 9 we had a betting blog, cox fluff, media bs and ff superstar.
After rd 8 we had betting, teams, previews etc.
Bubble boys is all the way back after rd 7

    Ho hum…..

sure i can find any stats i want on ffgenie and general player info from anywhere on this old interweb contraption, but it just doesnt come with the same amount of love as a good old blog by monty ranting on about some new rookie or how good swanny is.

we can argue till gc17 wins its first premiership but i just want a couple more consistent blogs each week from monty and his crew to justify me having this site bookmarked on my toolbar lol.
