TAGS (life club position role style health) (FF #2097) 2017 DT PRE-SEASON OUTLOOK (posted 3 Jan 2017) Buffing up Giles' prospects
Suddenly, Jonathan Giles is a lot more important to West Coast than anyone thought he might be. LTIs to Nic Naitanui and Scott Lycett late last year mean he might have to carry the ruck for long periods in 2017. He has not done this at AFL level since 2013... two clubs ago. He did claim the scalp of Sam Jacobs in late 2016 action, though that may be more of a reflection on Sauce's form.It seems likely that Giles will be in a ruck committee with Nathan Vardy or Drew Petrie, then possibly Lycett on his scheduled return in midseason. His history when leading the ruck is not that much different to replacement-level scoring, as he doesn't get consistent stats around the ground and his forward work is uninspired. Anything more than a late pick to fill a roster hole is unwarranted. -

PLAYER DISCUSSION • @death, i hope you did steer clear of him you muppet - TheHanger - 150 months ago • .115.. - demon_spud - 155 months ago • Supposedly averaged 112SC last year, according to the preview of the Prospectus. - demon_spud - 155 months ago • I remember Neil Craig saying he was interested in him, but now that they have picked up Jacobs I don't think they will bother getting him too - CrowsFan - 168 months ago • Won the club's 2010 best and fairest playing as a ruckman floating forward. Kicked a few bags of goals as well. If picked up and priced at $87K - not a bad bargain. - xumtinlong - 168 months ago • haha so anything that contains bias is worthless? that's highly implausible as all forms of research and such contain bias. and i dont mind if u dont think my option is worth anything. i know from going to uni with him, that he works hard in all aspects of his life, let it be footy or otherwise. i thought this was something that might come into consideration. he is a humble guy. that is all. - sntran23 - 168 months ago • Your unavoidable bias renders your perspective worthless, that's all. If you want to be taken seriously leave out the fact you know him. - Death - 168 months ago • the comment isnt worthless. if u read it, it says he is a very good player in the SANFL which i have gone to watch many games in. the bit about going to uni with him, was just a bit extra that probably wasnt necessary. but thats cool, do what u like. its pretty much ur comment that is worthless - sntran23 - 168 months ago • Who cares if you go to uni with him? I'll steer well clear, now that you've revealed your comments to be worthless. - Death - 168 months ago • definitely a look into if picked up. go to uni with him actually, and looks to be a very good player in the SANFL - sntran23 - 168 months ago • One to look out for if he's picked up as a mature age rookie - xumtinlong - 168 months ago
