Receiving a very late contract ahead of the 2019 campaign, the onus is on Teia Miles to take the next step. Making his debut during 2017 as a pressure forward, Miles spent the final two months of last season playing in his preferred role across half back. However, the 49th selection in the 2014 national draft was dropped prior to the finals campaign. The youngster demonstrated he has potential at the elite level, registering 23 touches and a goal against the Dockers in round 19.The continued absence of Grant Birchall coupled with the departure of Ryan Burton gives Miles has an opportunity to make a position across the half back line his own. There are question marks over whether his body will ever develop enough for the next level, perhaps a reason for the Hawks' delayed contract decision. While the youngster is unlikely to demand draft selection over the JLT series, he may be one worth watching if given greater opportunity. -
