Managing just 39 career matches, season 2019 will be Dawson Simpson’s twelfth year on an AFL list. Previously at Geelong, Simpson was unable to take the opportunity presented after the retirement of Shane Mumford. He did produce a career best 46 hit outs against Port Adelaide in round 18, although was also dropped twice in a season with little positional competition. Having struggled to compete with the athletic ruckmen around the ground, Simpson averaged just nine touches per game.Mumford's return is likely to affect the former second-round draft pick, having largely been unopposed as a ruck choice with Rory Lobb preferring the forward role. An outstanding leader around the club, Simpson has struggled to bridge the athletic deficit that he faces against many of his direct opponents. Never having shown a propensity for fantasy scoring, there is no reason to expect a change to that trend. -
