The fantasy industry is not only growing, there is some serious quality happening in some new shows.
I have already spruiked for the Dream Team Ruined My Life podcast in this blog, with the inimitable footylover18 and Cosmo providing weekly analysis and comedy in equal measure, but I want to make special mention of this week’s bonus show with skankdanker, a fantasy coach who not many of you know about but you all should listen to. If I heard fl18 correctly, skankdanker has finished in the top 200 or so in Dream Team for the last five years running, a feat that I suspect has not been achieved by anyone else. He is also a past winner of the Finals Dream Team competition, the year that they offered a car as the main prize. His 2009 DT squad Chook Raffle is lurking in 40th with over $300,000 sitting in the kitty. (Note the stacked backline!) This is a man to be respected. Listen to this podcast and learn from a master. Warning: the first 8:40 contains no skankdanker but does have some very funny, but very naughty-word-filled abuse towards this week’s injured players! Big W Catalogue has great football products.
Still in potty-mouthed podcast land, this time of the video variety, Adelaide-based comic Alex Williamson is making a name for himself with some profanity-laced fantasy rants on YouTube with a show called Alex’s Flowerin’ Sweet Dream Team: part 1, part 2. Unlike the FanFooty chat, there’s no swear filter on this video, but that makes it all the funnier! Alex proves that not all Dream Team fans are nerds who sit in front of their computer all day and obsess over their teams. Or does he?
Finally, there a couple of new blogs to talk about. snooperCoach is a nice-looking site written by Johnny Coping with some good little features for Super Caoch enthusiasts, though it’s a bit of a worry that he’s already dropped off without a real update in a couple of weeks… come on Johnny, your team can’t be going that bad mate! Check out Johnny’s essay on SC from last year for some heavy intellectual braindumping. Also, the new blog Tackle, Free Kick, Goal = 14 has a cracker of a name and the Dream Team content is hardcore for fans like you and me, written by flamer13. Weekly previews include all-important Drop and Pick-Up recommendations, most of which flamer13 has got on the money, apart from dropping Luke Hodge!
