Fremantle enjoyed a rare win over a disappointing Port Adelaide side that was obviously undermanned, not the least because Port had traded two of its best midfielders to Freo in the offseason. Three injuries to Power players, plus a later suspension, capped off a thoroughly unsatisfying match for Port. The Dockers came out with only one slight injury, and more importantly gained invaluable "big game" experience.
