Weakest Bye Round

My strategy for the byes is to target the weakest bye for premiums, that's rd13 IMO.
I'll be aiming to get every player in from rd 13 that I see the best options before rd9 begins. I think starting with the players you want from that round is important  or atleast making them you're first upgrade.

Chances are there may only be 6 options you see valid which isn't many but I'd insist on starting them all.
I'd then even it up to 6/6/6, 5/6/6, 5/5/6 or 4/6/6 at the byes (making sure you have every rd13 premo). Then upgrade to rd 11 players after rd11 then rd12 to round 12 which would hopefully mean you're full upgraded by then.

This may only work for rd13 though, I'll see if it does work for rd11 premos as if I told you to pick every premo from Rd12 you're whole team will be full of them.

Not sure if it's already under use either...
Give is your thoughts?

I just did a calculation of my players in my current squad in terms of byes

Round 11

Crows, Rich, Bull, Lions, Carl, Haw

Round 12

Suns, Saints, Swans, Pies, Dons, Freo

Round 13

North, GWS, Port, Eagles, Cats, Dees

Defenders

11, 13, 12, 13, 12 (mp), 12 (r), 12 (r), 12 (r)

Mids

12, 12, 12, 12, 11 (r), 11 (r), 12 (r), 11 (r), 12 (r), 12 (r), 13 (r)

Rucks

13, 12 (MP), 13 (r)

Forwards

12, 12, 11, 12, 13 (r), 13 (r), 13 (r), 11 (r)

Premiums and keepers

11 (2)
12 [8]
13 (3)

Mid price players

11 (0)
12 (2)
13 (0)

Rookies

11 (4)
12 (6)
13 (5)

I don't mind that, it means that through the first bye week I can pick up some round 13 premiums, in round 12 I look at round 11 guys and in round 13 I go after the left over round 12 guys. I just need to be smart with my rookie options and make sure they can get me to 18 guys playing

Bit early for that detailed planning Matt - As we know teams will change another 20 times before Round 1. I am just looking at bye rounds and structures atm.

regarding previous posts go with gut on rucks from same club but bear in mind at least 2 out in one of the bye rounds,

Not really, most of my premium guys are locked anyway unless injury occurs (Birchall for example). If anything the round 12 defender becomes a round 11 guy and my last round 12 premium forward becomes a stepping stone and I use the cash elsewhere.

Considering my keepers are the ones I will intend to still have by then I can see which rounds I should target when the byes do come around and I think I am happy enough with the current plan.  In round 11 I target round 13 premiums to cover for that week, in round 12 I get the round 11 guys and round 13 I can pick up someone like Fyfe to finish off my midfield. So it means in round 11 on my current format I will have a total of 11 keepers before trades which hopefully becomes a 12 or 13, the week after I might have 8 and the week after that I might have another 13 or so. I think the key is to build up a war chest heading into those rounds as you can make 3 trades at a time and get in as many premiums as possible. Unless there is a guy earlier I am willing to break the bank for that will be my plan.

Obviously rookies are going to be BPA, especially in defense, but I think I will look at getting in as many round 11 and 13 guys to help cover the blow in round 12

Fair enough Mat especially if settled on prems. I am still undecided on a couple though.

I am still tinkering with my structure but there seem to be a few guys I have in every draft at the top end. We are still over a month out from the season so injuries happen and players don't perform how you like in the NAB which will probably change things again. Rookies are going to play a huge part in this as well but I think I know which of my players I am happier to part with as the season gets closer to try and fix these issues

yeah my team rd 12 is the weakest bye round
rd 11: 4 premos
12: 5 premos, 3 midpricers
13 3 premos
