Good looking team Feltsy. I think Shaw and Ward are great picks but if you're looking elsewhere. Hi nerd/Simpson/Walker, and for Ward, you can't go wrong with Beams/Sloane/JPk but the man I'm looking at is Barlow. Watch the round 12 bye though!

I have another team as a possibility at the moment, which do you rate better? (Changes bolded!)

B: Smith, Shaw, Newnes, Waters, Hamling, Dick (Edwards, Newman)
M: Ablett, Pendlebury, Selwood, Ward, Dangerfield, Van Berlo, Freeman, Heeney (Ellis-Yolmen, Laverde, Lambert)
R: Maric, Natanui (Cox)
F: Goddard, Deledio, Bennell, Swan, Clark, Hogan (Steele, Daniel)

B: Smith, Newnes, Higgins, Waters, Hamling, Dick (Edwards, Newman)
M: Ablett, Pendlebury, Selwood, Murphy, Dangerfield, Steven, Freeman, Heeney (Ellis-Yolmen, Laverde, Lambert)
R: Maric, Natanui (Cox)
F: Goddard, Deledio, Swan, T.Mitchell, Clark, Hogan (Steele, Daniel)

Essentially..

Shaw (95) + Ward (115) + Van Berlo (80) + Bennell (105) = 395
versus
Higgins (85) + Murphy (115) + Steven (110) + Mitchell (105) = 415

Is the second team better?

I know people will hate the Higgins pick but is there someone else around the same price who is comparable?

Money Shot

I like the first team better although you did potentially have an extra keeper in team two and might start off a bit stronger I see team 1 better as the keepers you do have are defiantly going to be keepers where as Higgins, Stevens, Mitchell have a chance of spudding up and being a waste of money.
Can't really fault the first team mate, just make sure you are prepared for if no backline rookies get up.

Would love your thoughts on my team.

My current team..

D: Simpson, Newnes, Savage, Henderson, Lever, Dick (Edwards, McKenzie)
M: Ablett, Pendlebury, Selwood, Sloane, Ward, Kavanagh, Heeney, Freeman (Boekhurst, Dumont, Lambert)
R: Maric, Natanui (Read)
F: Deledio, Goddard, Martin, Swan, Clark, Hogan (Laverde, Daniel)

$29.7k remaining

D: Simpson as Mr Consistent - will be top 5 backman. Newnes as the breakout contender. Savage is a risk but has shown to go big off the half back line and plenty of options around his price to change to if he spuds. Henderson to make at least $100k for me.

M: First three are set and forget - will be top 8 mids. Sloane as Mr Consistency again and Ward because once again I think he has the ability to go large and be in that 110-115 group.

R: Picked both Maric and NicNat because I believe a lot of their points are from their contested ball work when the ball hits the deck as well as being serviceable with the hit outs to advantage.

F: First three are set and forget and Swan is worth the risk pending any fitness concerns.

What do people think? If I am in need of money for rookies etc. will downgrade Deledio > Mitchell, Ward > Wines or both!

Sorry to sound harsh but your defence doesn't look good at all. Savage at D3 is way too weak and we'll be lucky to see 3 rookies play round 1, let alone 4.

Mids look good but it means your defence has suffered. I would downgrade either Sloane or Ward to a rookie so you can fix your defence.

Rucks are ok. I prefer Goldy to Maric but that's just personal preference.

Forwards look spot on.

Appreciate the feedback but disagree. Think defence is the perfect place for a few risks because the 15th best to the 40th best defender will all average within 15 points of each other. Trying to find a cheapish defender who will score close to the few guns that are there will seperate the winners from the losers in SC this year. Besides I hate spending bug in defence when blokes will average 90+
Would rather spend big everywhere else and bag the points. There is no way im going in with less than 5 premo mids.

I think people will be surprised with the number of defence rookies who will pop up. I swear we say it every year but they keep popping up. Especially with Essendons predicament.. think Edwards, Steinberg and Browne may come in very handy!

I think it would be worth the risk if Savage and Henderson were at D5 and D6 but not at D3 and D4.

We shall see... defence isnt worth investing in this year and we have to get around the idea that we may only have 3 solid defence rookie options while not hurting our teams so much with mid pricers that are in no mans land. Make no mistake, defence is where it will be won and lost early on..

So bit of an update.. this is what I have atm..

B: Smith, Kelly, Newnes, Macmillan, Brown, Edwards (Goddard, Dick)
M: Ablett, Pendlebury, Selwood, Ward, Wines, Lang, Anderson, Lambert (Heeney, Boekhurst, Freeman)
R: Goldstein, Natanui (Read)
F: Bartel, Goddard, Martin, Swan, Clark, Hogan (Karnezis, Daniel)

$4,200 remaining

B: Like Kelly as a POD, should get more midfield time with the many young defenders they have at the club (Thurlow, Smedts, Bews) and the coach has said as such. Not thinking he is a world beater but a 90+ average is likely!
M: Ward as my POD and Wines as the breakout contender. Wards opening rounds are amazing and hopefully should score well. Also looking at Beams and Sloane.
R: Set and Forget.
F: Jumped on Bartel who may be up and down but I think will score more consistently with more midfield time and with Johnson having issues over preseason I can see that happening. Had Buddy but I think the hurt Kurt may impact his SC scores.

What do people think?

Money Shot

Great side mate well done.
A lot of people are going to say that the defence is too weak but I think it will do well.

I'm one for a stronger backline this year as i'm not one bit confident in the rookies, hopefully these ones get up for you round 1 which might see my team having a similar look! love the kelly pick also, reckon he will be really solid.
Like the Wines and Lang pick in the mids also, not too sure about Anderson, I reckon he will get games but will be very in and out, everywhere else looks great, good stuff cob
