Hogan nominated this week  :P

Thought Brayshaw was better tbh - Will be his turn soon enough though  8)

I keep saying it, but I don't think people take the magnitude of my words seriously enough.

I LOVE Hogan. It took 4 games for him to reach Nathan Jones-level of love.

He's just everything I need in a man-crush. Dissing Boyd and all.

Haha I love him too and I don't even go for Melbourne, though they are my second team (family comittments and know a couple who play for them). I've said it a bit he's the best 'first year' (since was injured most of last year) player I've ever seen, he does it all, kicks accurately, crashes packs, does all the hard things too smothers etc. All this taking the number 1 defender and having a shower load of expectation. For me he absolutely has to win the rising star, playing the hardest position on the ground against the number 1 defender.

Judd and JOM way better first year players and even Greene

They're mids though, Key forward hardest position in the game to play

didn't think position was a criteria

Way ahead of what Jaeger did in his first season. Judd's first year probably wasn't as good either, he picked up a ton in his 2nd year.

Considering he's also a tall key forward, he's pretty close to the best first year player in a while

It's gotta be hasn't it? Can't all be measured on stats.

Hence why I said best first year player I've ever seen (baring in mind I've only been alive for 19 years  :P). Position is definitely the main consideration. If you look at how long it took the likes of Hawkins to do what Hogan has done, is absolutely phenomenal. Another big consideration for me, was that ever since he was drafted as a 17 year old he has been hailed as the club's saviour, which is ridiculously heavy pressure for someone that age, a running joke was he was the best player to have never played a game. Look at maybe how Boyd's going in the same situation. Hogan should be a clear winner for mine.

Hogan winning, imo. But the fact bonts didn't get the nod last year makes me think they don't look at that sort of thing. They'll probably give it to a midfielder like brayshaw or cripps

Bonts didn't even deserve to go 2nd last year.

Cripps is killing it. If he doesn't get it, i'll be highly surprised.

I would say Cripps would be leading at the moment with Adam Saad the smokey. Hogan and Brayshaw up there but imo behind Cripps.

Cripps isn't fit to shine Hoges' shoes

Cripps has had two great games, in two of the blues' wins, but the rest have been average (not bad average, as in satisfactory but not great average). And even then, most of his touches have been handballs. Hoges hasn't gone goalless yet this season - and remember, he plays for Melbourne. 22 goals in 10 games for a youngster in a poor side is brillant, would be on track for 50 if he didn't miss a couple of games. Let's not forget his 68 marks either, 25 inside 50, and 24 contested (averages only behind Hawkins and Casboult).

Cripps will be a solid midfielder, but his numbers aren't that outstanding compared to other good young midfielders. Hogan's putting up once-in-a-generation numbers - he's even better than Daniher.

tl;dr Hoges is GOAT

I'll be upset if he doesn't win the rising star, no matter how good Cripps is.

I wouldn't be upset. tbh it's going to be bloody close. Depends on how bias the judges are this year.

Spite

I honestly think they'll purposefully make it tie between Hogan and Cripps.

IMO I think Hogan should get it.
