Shane Biggs update

http://www.westernbulldogs.com.au/news/2015-03-10/shanes-string-setback

Meanwhile, half-back Shane Biggs looks set to miss remainder of the NAB Challenge, after injuring his hamstring at training last week.

The 23-year-old former Swan didn’t take any part in Saturday’s intra-club match, and will be closely monitored as the Bulldogs prepare for their Easter Saturday home season opener against West Coast at Etihad Stadium.

“(Shane’s) unlikely to take part in the NAB Challenge, but we’ll keep on top of him and build him up in the appropriate way,” Bulldogs GM of Football Graham Lowe told BulldogsTV.

BRENDAN Whitecross will play his first game since September 2013 when he returns from his second knee reconstruction with Hawthorn's VFL affiliate Box Hill on Saturday.

Hawks assistant coach Cameron Bruce said last Sunday that Whitecross could play in the Hawks' final NAB Challenge game against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium next Thursday (March 19).

This is good might line up rohnd 1 in the end

shaker

Good for him hope he can stay on the park but he has missed so much footy don't know if he will ever get back to where he was.

ronl

Agree with shaker, and can't see him being primed for round 1, even if Essendon are only going to field 5, maybe 6, players.

GEELONG is not concerned about a knock that saw star midfielder Steve Johnson finish an outstanding return to football on crutches in a VFL practice match on Saturday.

Johnson, who has battled an ongoing foot injury through the pre-season, kicked three goals and dominated through the midfield against Collingwood's VFL team at Simonds Stadium.

However, he left the ground halfway through the third quarter following a heavy knock and didn’t return, leaving the ground on crutches.

Johnson, who played approximately 50 minutes, said he had suffered a cork just above his right knee, but he was hopeful of playing in the Cats' final NAB Challenge match.

I'm going to assume he thinks Hawthorn play Essendon in Rd1.

Based on this article I reckon there is next to no chance that WhiteX lines up rd1

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-03-14/forgotten-hawks-landmark

"If he strikes form and the form is good enough for him to work his way into the AFL team, then we'll put him in [for round one].

This line suggests theres a certain position for him though. Hopefully can hit some form.
Just don't want him coming in at an annoying time like round 3 or 4 when we can't even downgrade to him

If he's close round 1, would people keep him on the bench and play a rookie and hope he plays round 2 or 3??

These lines concern me more though

"He didn't set the world on fire, but there was no expectation that he would,"

"He hasn't got enough time to recover, so he's going to have to work his way back into the AFL team via Box Hill, which he fully understands,"

"We probably think it's going to take a while, but he might do better than that. I hope he does."

I think there is no chance he plays early. That one line about possibly playing rd1 sounds more like a standard line they would say about any player trying to get into the team

Very hard decision. What if he doesn't break into the team after 2-4 rounds?
