I am currently toying with 3 or 4 structures and this one of them:

Def:  M.Hibberd, N.Dal Santo, B.Smith, G.Birchall, D.McKenzie, H.Goddard ( N.J. Brown, C.Smith )
Mid:  G.Ablett, D.Beams, J.Selwood, J.P. Kennedy, C.Ward, P. Cripps, I.Heeney, B.Boekhorst ( A.Neal-Bullen, J.Laverde )
Ruc:  T.Goldstein, M.Kreuzer ( J.Griffin, M.King )
Fwd:  D.Martin, B.Goddard, B.Deledio, D.Swan, M.Clark, T. Membrey ( D.Markworth, R.Tarrant )

40k odd

Traditional Guns n' Rookies, what are your thoughts?

pommyadam

I personally think that your ruckline is a little risky
I have no issues with Goldy
but Krooz is injury prone
Griffin is 3rd choice (behind Sandi and ZClarke)
and King has questionable (at best) JS

I'm assuming that your rookies are placeholders, so I won't comment on those

and which of your mids will be top 10 come year end, Gaj - but will Jelwood, Beams, Ward and JPK?
I know you'll probably change it 5000 times before lockout, but I'd put faith in another rookie mid (or even a midpricer like Rich) and then premo in the backline, they're far too inconsistent back there imo

ADEZ

Thanks for the feedback mate!
Yeah the 3/4 team structures I am considering are determined by the ruck line...
I am confident Selwood, Beams and JPK will be thereabouts and think Ward is more than capable plus he's a handy bye round with few premiums in round 13...
Outside of Ceski, Hibberd and Simmo I see no locks for 85+ , plus NDS won't gain DP status...hopefully some rooks pop up in the pre-season so I can skimp out a bit in that area until the back line premos reveal themselves

Cheers, as you said, one of 5000 teams yet ::)

Def: M.Hibberd, B.Smith, J.Newnes, G.Birchall, B.Waters, B.Whitecross (H.Goddard, D.McKenzie)
Mid: G.Ablett, D.Beams, J.Selwood, J.P. Kennedy, N.van Berlo, I.Heeney, A.Vandenberg, B.Boekhorst (J.Laverde, N.Freeman, M.Dick)
Ruc: S.Jacobs, T.Goldstein (M.Cox)
Fwd: B.Goddard, B.Deledio, R.Gray, D.Swan, C.Petracca, M.Clark (J.Hogan, J.Steele)

6 k remaining

Def: Like all am having trouble with this line so decided to spend big, Mayes/Savage/Seedsman/Ibbo are pressuring Birch
Mid: Pretty happy with line, was sold on 5 premo mids but this structure may be more appropriate
Ruc: Set 'n' Forget, two of the most durable rucks...Still considering Leuenberger/Kruez but the form of Martin and Malthouse's recent comments regarding using Kruez as a forward has me hesitating, not sold on Bellchambers either...This line could be a big POD if any injuries occur
Fwd: Stock standard, think Martin will average slightly more than Gray but for byes sake...and because it is Robbie (don't torture me like Wingard did)

Thoughts?

Can't help it :-[

Gray --> Smith
Jacobs --> Minson
Petracca --> TBC

Def: M.Hibberd, B.Smith, J.Newnes, G.Birchall B.Waters, B.Whitecross (H.Goddard, D.McKenzie)
Mid: G.Ablett, D.Beams, J.Selwood, J.P. Kennedy, N.van Berlo, I.Heeney, A.Vandenberg, B.Boekhorst (J.Laverde, N.Freeman, M.Dick)
Ruc: T.Goldstein, W.Minson (M.Cox)
Fwd: B.Goddard, B.Deledio, D.Smith, D.Swan, T.Bellchambers, M.Clark (J.Hogan, J.Steele)

5k

Not sold on TBC but is decent cover and will make a solid f7/r3 in time, hopefully Minson can successfully manage is back injury, Devon averaged 101 over the last 13 games but quite a few key GWS mids missed in that time so will be one to watch in the preseason

pommyadam

hahaha, I've got that bug too (help others to avoid looking at my own :P )

defs:
it's a warzone for everyone, so think you've got the right idea in spending big and going with rooks (rather than risky midpricers)
I'd lean against Birch as a preference, Hawks seem to spread their def scores around, which doesn't help for DT (consistent 70-90s, rather than bigger scores - it's okay though, but sometimes they'll bane to 30)

mids:
I personally think Lions will have a midfield dilemma next year (Beams, Rocky, Redden, Hanley - someone's got to miss out) so I'd switch Beams to Pendles/Priddis
liking the other choices, but think that 3 playing rooks is a bit of a risk personally

ruck:
that line works if Leuey/Krooz have issues, which I'm guessing you think they will
in fairness, Leuey&Smartin worked pretty well vs Geelong in rd23

fwd:
can't fault your mid premos, but bit of a risk with Belly imo - maybe turn him into B Reid/Petracca and then turn a mid rook into Rich?

Cheers again!!
Yeah far from sold on Birch and if a midpricer presents themselves such as Ibbo/Savage/Mayes/Seedsman I'll be all over it, but he has a good bye round and has gone 80+ the last 4 years which may prove valuable in 2015
I'd prefer a Pendles/Barlow over Beams but I want to avoid having too many mids from the same bye round
Like you I'm not a massive fan of Belly and may well do as you recommended

Advice taken on board!

$117,000 Remaining

Pretty happy with it as it stands with at least 14 potential keepers and some cash in the bank
Tad worried about 3 round 12 premos in the mids but the 3 months up till the bye is a long time in footy

Barra13

How much cash left? Having to play 3 rookies in the mids week in week out can be a mess. Maybe look to go one of the to NVB? Only other thing is effectively no cover on the bench in the rucks. Maybe Maric down to Leuey and get Belly for bench?

Byes: 10/9/11

Defense: 3/3/2 - Quite happy with this line, d1-d4 should go close to top 8 and have a nice spread, Bewick has been impressed me this preseason and should build on his season last year and unique as is Kelly.

Midfield: 4/4/3 - Confident with the first 4, Griff has reminded me how much of a gun he is and think he could push top 15 which is great value. Happy with the bye spread. Usual rooks, solidified as Barra had recomended.

Rucks: 1/1/1 - Goldy/Maric have not moved for a long time, planned for life with out TBC and think I will take the risk as I like my current structure.

Forwards: 2/1/5 - Reliable premiums, standard rooks. Bye structure massively skewed but 4 are rooks

N.Fyfe

Like the look of the backline, reasonable depth. Not totally convinced on Bewick myself, but could turn out to to be a good POD for you.
Pretty much a Guns 'n Rook scenario for the rest. Which I'm seeing a lot of of late. Like the Griffen and Maric picks, considering the Goldy / Maric  combo myself but thinking maybe worth the extra cash for Jacobs.
Mids and Fwds a little weak with the amount of rooks on the field, maybe look at a Rich / NVB / Newton in the mids? However, huge upside in turns of money making.

Overall looks pretty good to me. Obviously got your own strategy and gut feelings on players which is nice to see

Appreciate the feedback mate!
I'm a big fan of a smokey, paid off with Gray last year 8) , but let's not mention the fails, at this stage Bewick is mine for the year.
Jacobs was crazy good last year and super durable just doesn't fit into my team as well as Maric does
Yeah I am considering the "safer" rooks but hard to fit them in at this stage, I've toyed around with swapping out Rockliff to get a better balance but then think about how much it hurt not having him last year and don't want that again!
