Yeah hard to justify picking any of the best rookies when there's basically no cash to be made from them.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. The rookie prices appear to have increased in line with the MN so it's the same situation as last season.

Looking at the top 10 draft picks last year you had Kelly (peaked at 113k price rise), Billings (113k), Bontempelli (133k), KK (108k), Aish (137k) and McDonald (96k). That money is nothing to sneeze at, it just takes longer to cull those cows compared to a basement priced player.
