Article in Herald Sun today with Malthouse talking about how he wants Warnock and Wood to ruck and is still persisting with Kreuz as a forward

He is an idiot, you think he would have noticed how useless the other two were and how desperate we were for Kreuz to come back and play in the ruck. He is flying at training as well which is a pity because his skills are going to be wasted in a position he can't play

JBs-Hawks

Surely Mick is just talking smack.

Money Shot

Kreuzer has the potential to be the number one ruck if he plays ruck but Mick wants to play him as a key forward which is a position where he will be lucky to avg 70.

Ok SC has forced a strategy change by limiting us to 1 bench spot

The Forward/Ruck option now becomes a more relevant option to potentially provide back up.

I have edited the first page to list the Fwd/Ruck options

Please let me know if I have missed any (or listed any who have lost DPP)

Ringo

You have not listed the rookie options - Most teams will now be going with Mason Cox at R3 with a R/F in forward line.

GM

The more I think about this , I think the use of the dpp ruck has limitations.
To have a good R3 would solve those problems.
Using Belly as your initial R3 is expensive but frees up a place for a fwd rookie and you have permanent cover with your rucks.

GM

For Carlton to climb the ladder Krooz would need to play a minimum 50% on the ball.
Initial use might be less to ease him into it but with more game time that percentage will increase.

Bluesman

no love for McKernan as cover - say as F5 with Belly as R2??

nostradamus

This is a great thread with many insightful comments about peoples respective strategies.

Personally I'm going with the 2 premo rucks, Cox on the bench and Belly fwd.

For mine its too much money to have sitting on the sidelines having either Belly or Griff as ruck 3.

**I will be monitoring both Kreuz and Leuey, but there's huge risk in both as I see it, and I'll be unlikely to start with either unless they're absolutely flying in pre-season.

Goosey

My only concern is if the situation arises where you need Belly for cover but he's already played, then your non-playing rookie R3 is a zero.

I really think a playing R3 is required, with some luck a cheaper than Belly R3 will pop up from somewhere!

You're exactly right that is the concern there, and hopefully a rook priced option will press their claims in the pre-season. But for mine, I'm reluctant to have any significant amount of cash sitting on the pine early in the season, so will be going with 2 premos that don't have major injury worries (at this stage anyway lol)

Hi Ringo - I didn't see the point in listing players who are unlikely to play - if you are just picking the cheapest option to sit at R3 then no analysis is required.

happy to list any who you think may play and are worthy of discussion.

JBs-Hawks

I think everyone needs to be putting Reilly Obrein on their ruck bench instead of Cox

Yeah the Pies play a lot of Friday and early Sat games.
Not really worried about who has the best chance of getting a game between Cox and OBrien. Both Pies and Crows don't have a lot of ruck depth.
