I reckon Devon Smith is a good POD but when I look at how I want my forward line to look towards the end of the season I picture it as Gray, Deledio, Martin, Goddard, Swan, Franklin, possibly bartel. Bennell n Devon Smith possibly could break that top 8. Just wouldn't be confident in considering Dalhaus or Le Cras.

Risks do need to be taken to win SC though but the forwards this year just seem too good to not select.

I can see the appeal in the rich selection, I think he will average enough to be a decent stepping stone by the time the byes are around. Lots of PODs in your mid but wow can't fault them because they could all be top 10 mids, I reckon Sidebottom will go big this year to. JPK is a beast as is Beams. I will have them on my watch list. Gutsy pods, with risks but potential high rewards. If ya do downgrade Whitecross and want to play it safer then Sidey - Pendles looks a safer pick.

I'm one of those who agrees Whitecross won't play R1, such a strong 22 to break into and I think hawks with the depth they have would put him through a few VFL games early and would see the vest also when he is named. Just a personal opinion though, would love to b wrong and see him start. Worst case you downgrade him to a named rookie and free up cash.

I'd like to be able to give more feedback on defenders but honestly have got no clue this year haha.

Comments:

Basically I was seeing what this structure looked like with a mid pricer in rucks, Stacked defensive line and a weaker forward line with the options available there,

With Sidey over Pendles just think he will benefit more than Pendles with Beams departure and hence a greater upside.

Rich is in atm as if I get lower priced rookies in after NAB Cup there is scope to make him a 5th premo.  Beams will continue to be watched to see how he handles tags.

Suspect my forward line will change a fair bit in Round 1 as picking the prems there is my main worry.  May even go back to Nat in rucks dropping Belly to a rook.

Taylor is in defence but there are a few more options at around the same price and Geary may also go down to a rook if more surface for round 1.

One thing for certain is this will not be my round 1 team but sitting atm.

Continuing to experiment with structures.

Ringo

Just posting a final structure I am looking at prior to Round 1.

Once seasons starts I will be advising changes after the round similar to last year.  Can not let all the secrets out early.

Couple of comments gone with a mainly mid priced defence due to the absence of rookies and uncerainty who will be Top 10.  So ample opportunity for upgrades once the scoring defenders start to surface.

Decided on a 4 prem and rookies midfield.

Rucks: With some concern over Natanui decoded to go set and forget with Maric and Goldy. O'Brien is my R3 as he looks like he could get some games and another reason as well which I will keep to myself.

Forwards: Again 3 prems a mid pricer and rooks.

Rookies will be adjusted when we know who is playing round 1,  Have $85k to play with as well for upgrades etc.

TEAM NAME: Ringos Stars
DEF: K. Simpson, A. Mackie, B. Sheppard, R. Bewick, J. Geary, C. Pearce (H. Goddard, A. Saad)
MID: G. Ablett jnr, D. Beams, J. Kennedy, S. Sidebottom, N. van Berlo, B. Newton, N. Cockatoo, A. Vandenberg (N. Freeman, J. Steele, N. Krakouer)
RUC: T. Goldstein, I. Maric (R. O'Brien)
FWD: R. Gray, J. Bartel, D. Swan, M. Walters, M. Clark, J. Hogan (C. Daniel, T. Lamb)

Bye Structure is 7/10/13 Whilst this does not look good it has been done deliberately as 8 of 13 Round 13 bye players would not be keepers.  Helps with the upgrade to Round 11 and 12 players after the byes.

Will probably be some more tweaking which will revealed after Round 1.

C'mon Ringo, post your real team so I can copy it.

With Gablett not playing NAB3 and thus doubtful for Round 1 have made this team without Gazz.

Yet another structure change but like it although forwards a little week.

Rookies obvous place holders eg whichever of Lamb/McInnes named will go to forwards.

Samsturmfels

what are your reasoning behind picking Sheppard, Berwick and Pearce??

With the lack of rookie defenders starting tried to see what a mid priced back line looks like and liked what I seen.  Will review obviously next week when teams announced, Will review who starts as there are others around the same price as well who may break out Geary, McMillan, Savage, Fasolo and Seedsman are a few others.

As you can see structure with mid priced will be sound if it comes off,

GoLions

Interesting backline structure, haven't tried that yet myself. Would prefer Geary and Ibbo over Bewick tbh.

Love the mids!

Same rucks as me :)

Weird that Gray and Bartel could actually be PODs to start the season haha. I've been going with 2 premo forwards most of the pre-season, but with my "no Gaz team, basically switched him for Gray, giving me the 3rd premo fwd. Still dunno which is best, if any. If all those rookies play though, I think it should be fine.

Donnie Brasco

Team looking good, as always, Ringo.

Your Lions are also set for a big year!

Update after Round 1.

Round 1 score 2130
Overall rank 6904

Thought with that score would rank a little higher but sound start.

Round 1 Team (scoring order)

Def: Simpson, Shaw, Merrett, Lumumba, Newness, Goodes (McIntosh, Saad)
Mid: Sloane, Sidebottom, Ablett, Fyfe, Heeny, Newton, Selwood, Cripps (Vandenberg, Cockatoo, Miller)
Rucks: Goldstein, Leuenberger (Read)
Fwds: Gray, Swan, Bellchambers, Hogan, Clark, Salem (McGrath, Lamb)

Good - Merrett hunch paid off, Sloane as POD (will probably be most traded in player for Rocky or Sidey this week unfortunately),  All prems bar one or 2 scoring in excess of 100
Reasonable - Berger and Bellchambers
Bad - Some rookie performances, Selwood, Bench scores McIntosh, Saad, Vandenberg and McGatrh more than on field scores. (Not alone here).

Had not planned a trade for Round 2 but with Sidey now confirmed for 2 months will need an injury trade.
looking at JPK, Pendles, Watson, Lewis, Hannerbury, Treloar and Wines. Probably a toss of the coin between JPK, Lewis and Pendles, Lewis has the better bye for me.

Bully

I think you should just ignore the byes for now, bring in the best and that would be JPK or Pendles.

Mat0369

I would go for Pendles of those guys

Ringo

Looks Like it may be JPK as I am a little short to go direct to Pendles and do not want to waste another trade atm
