Clarke was always going to get selected. And they will leave him in the squad as long as they can. It's easier to name an injured player then remove him, as opposed to not naming him, then having to wait until someone gets injured to add him to the squad. (Or in a case that happened once, fake an injury to get a player in the squad)

Got most of my tickets in the post today :)

Still awaiting the tickets for the QF as instead of sending them to Hillside Court (my street address), they sent them to Suicide Court :o

New Zealand are a massive smokie for the WC IMO, playing some scintillating cricket and for the first time in a while they have genuine depth.   Have a look at their WC Squad:

BATSMEN:  Brendon McCullum (C), Kane Williamson, Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor, Tom Latham
ALL-ROUNDERS:  Grant Elliott, Nathan McCullum, Dan Vettori, Kyle Mills
WK:  Luke Ronchi
BOWLERS:  Trent Boult, Corey Anderson, Tim Southee, Mitch McClenaghan, Adam Milne

Poll has now been revised to include NZ (not sure why I didn't include them in the first place). Change your vote if your view has changed too.

Mailman the 2nd

They're batting only grinds down to how well McCullum and Williamson can do each match. Knock either/both for under 40 runs and NZ are pretty weak

Same can be said for many batting line-ups, get the two best batsmen out cheaply and you're half way there.

Yeah so they're not really on the same level as the main 2-3 teams.

With the pseudo-home ground advantage I'd have them as 3rd favourite, could give it a real shake if things go right! Can't see anyone beating South Africa though.

Do New Zealand actually perform better in Australia than in other countries?

But there are games being played in NZ, which is probably what Alex was referring to.
