Can't see Finch not opening, to start off at least

Finch, Warner, Smith, Clarke, Bailey, Watson, Faulkner, Haddin, Johnson, Starc, Doherty wouldn't be too bad. Think Watson will get picked even though he probably shouldn't. Maxwell I'm hoping they leave out to start off with but that innings last night could see him play, and perhaps Doherty misses out (or Clarke).

If Pup is unfit, maybe White to replace him and come in at 3, Smith to 4?
If Pup is so unfit that he has to be removed from the squad, it doesn't matter which batsman replaces him, he won't be getting games. No Pup makes selection easy, it'll just go like it did in the South Africa ODI series.
If Clarke can't play I'd prefer White over the rest of our batters tbh (well, ARs I guess).

I rate Doherty, best/safest/most experienced option we have.

Definitely agree.

Doherty is a way better ODI bowler than people give him credit for, has the lowest economy rate of the entire squad
Yeah I really like him as well.

I would say at this point of their careers Watson is a better bowler and batsmen. Marsh just has potential to be better but you dont win WCs on potential.
Agreed. There's so much bashing on Watto, people forget how talented of a cricketer he is. Sure he's not good enough to bat 3 in the test side but he's still one of the best limited overs players in the world.
wouldn't go that far

Average of 41 with the bat and 30 with the ball. That's quality.

Looking at other forums of disscusion on the squad (reddit etc.) people look at the BBL wayyyyyyy too much. Boyce, Zampa and Behrendorf would not be good selections in the slightest

Could do a lot lot worse than Dorff!

Of course I'd like to think he'd do decently, but picking a debutant specialist seam bowler for a world cup based almost entirely on T20 form isn't that smart haha

The_Captain

World cup isnt the time to be making any surprise debut players. Too much risk. In time we may see Behrendorff play for Aus, not just yet but,

sad that Patto didn't get a run
He's not ready though, can't rush him back.
injury wise he's better than Clarke, and they have him in.

Please don't compare Patto to Clarke...

Clarke hasn't started on his back treatment as of yet, he needs to strengthen his hammy before he can get on the treatment machine, whereas Patto is bowling well in the BBL

elephants

Patto is a huge risk though.

1) he could break down again
2) he could do anything. Look at last night, first over 2/0 second over 0/22. I'd rather let him get some consistency and belief in his own bowling before throwing him into a world cup.

jobe#4

Clarke is a huge risk as well!!  granted if the risk pays off he could win Australia the world cup
