Can't see Finch not opening, to start off at least

Finch, Warner, Smith, Clarke, Bailey, Watson, Faulkner, Haddin, Johnson, Starc, Doherty wouldn't be too bad. Think Watson will get picked even though he probably shouldn't. Maxwell I'm hoping they leave out to start off with but that innings last night could see him play, and perhaps Doherty misses out (or Clarke).

If Pup is unfit, maybe White to replace him and come in at 3, Smith to 4?
If Pup is so unfit that he has to be removed from the squad, it doesn't matter which batsman replaces him, he won't be getting games. No Pup makes selection easy, it'll just go like it did in the South Africa ODI series.

If Clarke can play, that is where one of Warner, Finch, Watson, Bailey, Smith have to be dropped I feel. Otherwise you need at least 10 overs each match from your top 6, and that top 6 doesn't look like it can bowl 10-12 good quality overs.
In that scenario, it has to be either Watson or Bailey to make way. But you'd think they wouldn't even think about dropping Watto which means Bailey gets cut. If Bailey doesn't play because Pup is fit, does that means he's simply in the squad for his captaincy/leadership/experience?

Can get 10 overs from top 6 easy 6-8 from watto 2-4 from Finch

yep that's it

id play all of Warner, Finch, Smith, Clarke and Bailey. add in Watto and Faulks, keeper, then whichever attack best suits the conditions

And Haddin has to play, so that leaves three bowlers. Starc is apparently one of the best white ball bowlers in the world, Mitch Johnson is Mitch Johnson, and there needs to be spin (unless the Gabba or Perth). So effectively Australia's best lineup with everyone fit is:

Warner
Finch
Watson
Clarke
Smith
Bailey
Faulkner
Haddin
Johnson
Starc
Doherty

M.Marsh, Maxwell, Hazlewood, Cummins miss out.

I feel like Doherty won't actually play and they'll just rely on Smith/Finch/Maxi.

I had Haddin there :P

yeah I'm happy with that side, and we can just play around the bowlers depending on the pitch/conditions

Doherty shouldn't be anywhere near our one day team. Couldn't turn a ball on a corrugated iron roof.

Lol. I think he's a decent limited overs bowler actually, but think that someone like Boyce would be better.

PowerBug

I rate Doherty, best/safest/most experienced option we have.

Marsh would be the better than Watto, more chance of wickets and we have great batting depth.

I would say at this point of their careers Watson is a better bowler and batsmen. Marsh just has potential to be better but you dont win WCs on potential.

Agreed. There's so much bashing on Watto, people forget how talented of a cricketer he is. Sure he's not good enough to bat 3 in the test side but he's still one of the best limited overs players in the world.

Definitely agree.

Doherty is a way better ODI bowler than people give him credit for, has the lowest economy rate of the entire squad.

Looking at other forums of disscusion on the squad (reddit etc.) people look at the BBL wayyyyyyy too much. Boyce, Zampa and Behrendorf would not be good selections in the slightest
