Don't see how Lyon gets a gig over other short form spinners and allrounders.

He spins the ball.

Against Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka, who IMO are the 3 teams Australia has to beat to win the world cup, we don't want to play straight break spinners like O'Keefe, Doherty and Maxwell.

Plus Johnson and Harris, who would be 8 + 9 in the batting order, are in excellent form with the bat, so starting with a specialist spinner who doesn't bat as well isn't as big a risk

Would put Finch in the starting team over Watson.

as an allrounder I would put Finch in over Watson

They are about to unveil the squad. It's being streamed live on the Cricket Australia site (I think I am allowed to say that?)

Rod Marsh was asked, can you fit Clarke, Bailey and Smith in the one team? His response, "We'll pick whichever team is going to win us the game."

But can you pick all of them?
Warner, Finch, Watson, Clarke, Smith, Bailey, Haddin, bowlers.
Suddenly Watson is bowling 10 overs and someone like Faulkner is down at 8

Finch and Watson's form are very poor at the moment. Could we see the following XI?
Warner, Haddin, Smith, Clarke, Bailey, Faulkner, Maxwell, Johnson, Starc, Hazlewood, Doherty

Can't see Finch not opening, to start off at least

Finch, Warner, Smith, Clarke, Bailey, Watson, Faulkner, Haddin, Johnson, Starc, Doherty wouldn't be too bad. Think Watson will get picked even though he probably shouldn't. Maxwell I'm hoping they leave out to start off with but that innings last night could see him play, and perhaps Doherty misses out (or Clarke).

If Pup is unfit, maybe White to replace him and come in at 3, Smith to 4?

Nige

If Pup doesn't get up, I think they flagged Smarsh as a likely replacement in the squad. I feel like that increases the likelihood of Maxi getting games too.

The thing is that pretty much all of Australia's bowlers can bat and pretty much everybody who bats can bowl part-time with exception of Bailey.

I can't really picture a team with Clarke, Bailey and Smith all in the XI though.

Watto is an awesome one day batsman. He's a lock.

If Pup is so unfit that he has to be removed from the squad, it doesn't matter which batsman replaces him, he won't be getting games. No Pup makes selection easy, it'll just go like it did in the South Africa ODI series.

If Clarke can play, that is where one of Warner, Finch, Watson, Bailey, Smith have to be dropped I feel. Otherwise you need at least 10 overs each match from your top 6, and that top 6 doesn't look like it can bowl 10-12 good quality overs.
