It's kind of amusing in the context of Ricciuto, Danger, Walker and Sloane all being part owners of the Alma Hotel. :P

Half the crows are part owners of the pubs in the eastern suburbs.

Van Berlo, Vince and maybe Tex own a bit of the Hackney

not sure ele i reckon they might want to go harder in the off season knowing they cant during the season they would be really looking forward to it obviously not all of them but those that like a drink

During exams at uni most people don't really drink... then post exams everyone gets really loose- basically because you haven't been able to unwind.

With all due respect Ele, I'm a qualified drug and alcohol counsellor and I don't believe this is the best course of action. It's not about giving players free reign to behave as they please because there needs to be boundaries, but an arbitrary ban doesn't address any of the issues and instead sends the message "we don't trust you".

If the leadership group believe it's the right way to go and it's supported by the players then fine, good luck to them but it runs the risk of marginalising anyone who doesn't agree.

I don't think this is the right call either.

Is this really any different to what is expected in the work place?  Most major companies have a zero alcohol and drugs policy and employees are subject to random tests. ( I had 3 in the later years of my working life and 2 were Monday mornings).

This is the players workplace so I can not see the difference with what is becoming common place in work sites.

In saying this do not think an alcohol ban is warranted just reasonable monitoring and as the article states no firm decision yet made.

Also in the article the elevation of Daniel Talia to the leadership Group. Congratulations Daniel

Am not against the idea but, the Coach would need to have the whole playing group to believe in his ideals. Or this former rabble of a mob will never be a finals winning team!

Only need a bloke like the Great man Tex to be on board with Walshy and the whole club turns around ;)

Grazz

I like beer to much to like this rule. :(

Ban players from being out all night and getting pissed, don't ban them from having a couple of beers to unwind with friends or family. They aren't robots, they are just normal young blokes at the end of the day.

Booze slows down recovery and builds up lactic acid in the system, there is a reason it says they can drink if they have an 8 day break post game. The ban is more to do with player recovery and as a professional athlete you should be doing everything in your power to be in the best conditioning. The sports science guys must have 8 days as the limit in being able to recover from a game after drinking.

Having a few beers after a game doesn't take 8 days to fully recover from lol.

If it had that much of an effect then no clubs would allow their players to drink.

Most clubs have an unwritten rule about drinking now. As I said, booze builds up lactic acid, that slows down recovery times and in turn can effect training schedules. Having a drink will likely take an extra day of recovery to allow your system the proper recovery the extra day of rest (since most clubs have 7 day breaks) of an 8 day break probably allows for sufficient recovery and the lactic acid to get out of the system. They are paid professionals, they should be able to deal without drinking for 7 months of the year if their job requires for them to do so.
