When the 2nd positional changes were released in AF this year Swan had only played fwd 30%. This won't be enough
Was that 30% for the first half of the season though? Felt like the longer the season went the more he played forward

Off the top of my head they changed about RD15? Then pretty sure he missed games after that also. On my phone so can't check for sure sorry man. But it was 30% when the second lot came out for the season up til that point. He needs to be up around 45-50% for the year

Thanks Ric! That's a shame, not sure that I have the balls to get him in the mid

so he's a Fwd/Mid in AF now. Was talking to Warnie about it and he said he was 40% at RD16 this year.

Ive done some player profiles that double up on the ones here like Swan, would people suggest i add them to the existing profiles or put new ones in? The ones here are good, but I've been looking at doing more of a written profile and analysis as there doesn't seem to be much around yet.

#24
Dane Swan

Price - $467,100 (Fanplanner)

Position - Fwd/Mid

Age - 30

Height - 185cm

Weight - 92kg

Previous Averages/Games

2010 - 126.8 (22)
2011 - 121.9 (21)
2012 - 126.3 (18)
2013 - 117.5 (22)
2014 - 86.4 (17)

Dane Swans 2014 season marked the first time in 5+ years that he was not amongst the elite, top 10 midfielders in the competition. He came into the season off a wrist reconstruction and admitted to playing hurt all year before going in for hip surgery post season. Still on a reduced training load but expected to complete a much fuller pre-season this year than last. Has spoken in the off season about his putrid 2014, and how he expects to be much fitter in 2015, and return to at or near his best. The same thing is said about every player at this time of year though so how much weight you put into that is debatable.

Pros

DUAL POSITION - This is the one that will see a lot jump on Swan this year, he would have been a risk worth considering in the midfield, but as a forward it will be hard the find better options. As a mid he would need to score 115+ to be a keeper, as a forward he only needs to average 100.

More Midfield Time - The pies lost some serious midfield talent over the off-season with the departures of Beams, Ball and Lumumba. Swan will rest forward at times, but I expect extra midfield time this year, along with Pendlebury and Sidebottom should see the most midfield time at the pies if fit.

Game Style - Swan is a huge accumulator of the ball, along with Ablett by far the biggest ball winner over recent years, averaging 30+ possessions and regularly hitting 40+. He gets his share of contested ball, and uses his superior running power to get it on the outside. He also kicks goals, which is gold as a midfielder. Has a huge ceiling with several career 150+ scores.

History - Average greater than 120 over the previous 5 seasons before 2014. Arguably the second best SC player ever (behind GAJ).

Cons

Age & Injury - Swan will be 31 by the start of the season, and is coming off a season where he played with injury all year and also missed 5 games. Injuries are much harder to overcome at 30+ years of age and perhaps Swan will never return to the elite rung of the AFL, which happens to so many who get injured post 30 years old. On the positive side, Swan had missed just 7 games in his previous 8 years, and before last season had always been durable and injury free.

Disposal - Despite being one of the best players in the AFL for years his disposal has always been just good, never elite. This showed last year more than ever, where it was a major reason he failed to crack 100 SC points in many 25+ disposal games.

Prediction 105-110

Final Word  Whilst I dont think Swan will return to his 120+ averaging years, as a forward he doesnt need to. I think he will improve this year to average in the low 100s, which as a forward would place him in the top 5, and arguably has the highest scoring potential of any SC forward this year. At a starting price of under $500k you would be crazy not to strongly consider him for your starting side. I think worst case scenario he averages 95 and you can still keep him as a M5-M6.

Yes I've tried several posts and it won't work. Just so much easier to type up article style work on word documents! No one wants to do 600 words on here! haha

Wow, so it didn't work after re-typing the punctuation? That's weird. Whatever comes after the word Position is obviously flowering up your post though haha. But yeah, very annoying to do massive write-ups on FF :P
