Callan Ward

Born: April 10, 1990
Age: 24yr
Last Drafted: Round 2, Pick #19 2007 National Draft
Position: Midfield

Past Supercoach Average Scores
Year   Games   Average
2008   6   33.3
2009   19   68.2
2010   7   62.7
2011   22   89.1
2012   20   106.5
2013   21   97.3
2014   20   112.8

Ward had a pretty decent fantasy year was fairly consistent had only 5 scores under 100.The addition of Griffen to GWS could help him greatly by taking the tag away from him. This could tip Ward to super premo status score wise. His fanplanner price is listed as $609,400 he could be worth taking a punt on as a pod starting mid.

I actually think he might drop. just too much talent at GWS and while Griff isn't the same type of player he could command SC points. That along with the rise of guys like trealor, whitfield etc..

Ricochet

I'll be looking to jump all over Ward. Hopefully Griff takes away some heat from tags and his 2014ave is injury affected.

Does he have that much upside though? Priced at 113 he kind of has to go 117+ to be worth it in my books.

Watson priced at 107 just needs to average within 5 of him to be better value and think he can.

Not sure he can match the true Elites in Ablett Pendles Selwood.

I think he can go 115+ and the most important bit is a RD13 bye

I think he could push 120 next year, if he stays injury free. I think the giants will collectively improve and as a group steal more points off the opposition rather than each other. Griff would need to be tagged first for this to occur, but I think that's more likely than not.

Ward and inside player and Griff and outside player, kind of depends what the opposition is tagging, still think most teams will apply pressure to him. The beneficiary should be adam trealor though as cant see him attracting the tag with those two in the game.

Ward could be good but too expnsive to be a must have in my eyes.

would you pick him over Watson + 40k

That depends on ASADA... I'd like to start both ideally, however I think Ward could be less likely to string a run of sub 110 games together, and might not drop as much. Watson, like Selwood, often seem to do this at some point and make good upgrade targets. In saying this, they can kill it early too and you miss out on those points while waiting for the drop...

Agree with your comments on inside and outside players, I think coaches are trending more towards tagging outside runners, and for the most part don't think that will change. I'm considering starting both Griff and Ward...

Legendary for WXV <3

Won't increase his average that much again, but should be a reliable pick if you get him.

kilbluff1985

i think he can get a little better Griff will take some attention off him and Treloar getting better will also

shaker

Already got him in my team can see him and GWS improving next year

I can't see him improving, won't be going near him. He doesn't really get tagged anyway, so Griffen won't make a massive difference.
I'd rather Dylan Shiel.

Was tagged rd's 2, 4, 10, 11, 12 and 18, the only times the opposition tagged a gws midfielder. I think as gws improve, opposition coaches will tag more. This year, even Crowley ran free against GWS. A couple of red vest games this year too.

Still, it's not like he's tagged every week. I'd tag Griff 100% of the time over him.

Agree, and that's why I think he can improve next year. Say the 6 tags cost him 15-20 points for those 6 games, he was subbed out effectively before half time twice, so there could be 200 points he "missed" this year that he might get next year. Granted, he could get injured 4 times next year, but I think he's undervalued slightly for 2015. Just my opinion.
