Article on the progress of Allan Christensen.  Leppa is hoping to play him in the last NAB cup game but still not 100% sure if he will be OK.

Will probably be a watch and see for round 1.

With Lester also training with the defensive group is this putting some more pressure oh Harwood for a place or will Rich move to mids and Lester take Rich's role.

Brisbane Injury List update:

Luke McGuane (Knee) - 3 weeks
Trent West (Knee) - 4 weeks
Allen Christensen (Back) - 6 weeks
Cian Hanley (Knee) - 11 months
Daniel Merrett (Knee) - 4 weeks
Justin Clarke (Hamstring) - 8-10 weeks
Jonathan Freeman (Glute) - TBC
Pearce Hanley - 12 weeks

Clarke is a worry may mean that Goose has to play the first few games.

Freemans injury is only recent.

Lester will be given first opportunity by Leppa to fill Joel Patfuls position.  Interesting choice but he is similar height and weight to Patful.

With injuries to Hanley and Clarke not a real problem initially but question is if he makes position his own who will miss out when all fit. Harwood, McStay, Clarke, or Staker.

Christensen ready for NAB Challenge return

Brisbane Lions recruit Allen Christensen says he's aiming to play at least one NAB Challenge match after a delayed start to his pre-season.

The 23-year-old former Cat spent months on the sidelines after having back surgery in September.

Christensen says he only started training at the start of January but has told SEN’s Morning Glory he should still be ready for round one.

“Pretty sure that I’ll play the last NAB Challenge game and then into round one which should be going forward. That’s the plan at the moment,” he said.

Christensen says teammate Pearce Hanley’s hip surgery may have saved his career.

Hanley was set a 12-week recovery period after hip surgery, however the procedure to clean out cartilage last week found more damage than originally thought.

“I think they went in to do pretty standard hip surgery and they found more damage than they thought,” Christensen told SEN.

“I think it might save his career to be honest, it’s a pretty serious injury.”

“I've seen it happen with Nathan Vardy when he had his hip surgery.”

BRISBANE Lions pair Ryan Harwood and Jono Freeman will have delayed starts to the season, with both to miss up to 12 weeks following surgery.

The Lions have revealed Harwood will have surgery on Monday to alleviate the abdominal and groin pain he has endured in recent weeks.

Freeman, 20, who played four games last season, had a microdiscectomy on a bulging disc in his back on Thursday night and will also miss up to 12 weeks.

Claye Beams will probably now play in defence as he has been training there probably just in advance of Golby.
