Because Faulkner hasnt proven himself with the bat at first class level yet.
Average of 32 with 0 centuries, yep I'll pass on Faulks for now.

JBs-Hawks

He might be the future but if you put him there too early then he will struggle and get sent back to first class cricket.

Ponting, Clarke, Smith all started at 6 and earnt the way up by weight of runs.

Unless we want what happened to Hughes, Doolan and Khawaja to happen to Burns then we should protect him for a while longer.

What is wrong with you people? Joe Burns is the future number 3. Move Burns from 6 to Watsons position at 3 and put Watto at 6.

The good Marsh comes in, the bad Marsh goes out and really it's quite simple.
Joe Burns is the future number 3 just like Alex Doolan and Glenn Maxwell (how he even makes this conversation is beyond me, but anyway) were when they made their test debuts at 3. There is a discussion to be had.

Smith started at 8 lol, now that is some promotion! 8)

Edit: It's funny looking back at old games and wonder "how the f did that happen" like Smith's debut: http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/426394.html
Look at the two Australians that took 5 wicket hauls in that match! o_O

lol Burns has played 3 innings for a total of 1 50. You guys are crazy scoreboard spectators.

Putting the responsibility of No. 3 on him would be the worst move since putting Quiney there.

Smith was also utilized very poorly at the beginning, much like Watson is now!

If you want him to play more then 15 test for Australia, you want him playing the first 15 at 6 ;)
