In 2014, the 94 kg baby-faced Wines averaged 24 disposals, 12 contested, 5 clearances, 5 tackles, 3 marks and a sneaky 2.5 HO per game, won his second Gavin Wanganeen Medal for best player under 21 (in line for a third in 2015) and finished equal 6th in Port's B&F....all at the age of 19.
Since his debut, Wines has played 49 consecutive games including 5 finals and has kicked 22.23. He has shown remarkable consistency for just a second year player by only dropping below 20 disposals 3 times in his 25 games in 2014.

Fantasy wise, he had a an excellent second year, averaging 92 across the year (finals included) with a high of 136 among 6 other tons. He proved he isn't absolutely reliant on wins, averaging 99 in 16 wins and 89 in 9 loses. Up until round 19, he was on track for a stellar fantasy season with an average of 98 and a low of 81, then he went into a form slump with fatigue catching up on him, he averaged just 67 over the last 5 rounds of the H&A season, he recovered with a strong finals series.

Positives:
- Very young
- Will avoid a tag
- shown consistency
- will have another pre-season under his belt
- Strong frame he's still learning to use
- In a strong team
- Capable of kicking multiple goals
- Shown outstanding durability early in his career

Negatives:
- Third year blues??

Prediction: 96 - 101
I firmly believe he improve again, has Voss backing him and now Ryder to tandem with Lobbe to feed him the pill and natural progression will be at play, is a Fantasy star of the future. However, I doubt I will go with him in 2015 in favour of similarly priced mids (Ward, Swan, etc.). Good pick up in Draft format.

Too pricy for me.
Would want him to comfortably average over 100 to justify starting with him.

pommyadam

pre-bye average of 104 is pretty top notch
might be worth a handy pickup early if he can repeat that

seemed to taper off toward the end of the season when Port were flailing, which might be a good indication of him (the new Lids? does well when the team are performing, wouldn't touch with a 10ft pole if they're not)

Yeah he is definitely at an awkward price he will improve but perhaps not by enough, confident he will average 100 odd pre-bye

So far I'm starting him, but good points are raised about more proven similar priced mids being available. Will have to ruminate over it before locking him in for R1
