Profile
The 2013 Larke Medallist came into system expecting to be a rookie with instant impact in his debut season, but in the end this did not transpire. Not only were his numbers uninspiring, he also struggled to start games for West Coast with 6/10 games played as a sub. So what went wrong? I guess it starts where he broke his Collarbone back in the U18 championships on 28/06/2013, an injury where he went to have surgery and usually takes 3 months rehabilitation. He also didn't necessarily cope with the speed of the AFL, and needs more time to adjust. Looking at his WAFL numbers shows that he had a reasonable season, but definitiely not numbers that stand out. One of his more inspiring games was during the 2nd semis in the WAFL final series where he was BOG.

The only thing going for Sheed atm is that he produced during the 2013 U18 Championships, I cannot specify his exact stats but he averaged 113.4 pts (not including tackles, bh, ff and fa). So the kid knows how to play and accumulate.

So where can he improve? A 2nd preseason can do wonders for him, not only will he be confident in his collarbone in the contest but he should also become more accustomed to the speed of the AFL along with natural progression and experience.

Pros - Ball Winner, Cheaper compared to other 1st round rookies

Cons - Hasn't scored above 80 in AF, Sub potential

Verdict
I reckon Sheed can improve big time on his scores, a similar improvement from the likes of Fyfe, Wingard and Macrae coming into there second season. If he is able to grab a rotation in the Eagles midfield we should see an increase in his scoring. Keep him on your shortlist through the preseason, because if he gets a starting role in the team he can be better value then high drafted rookies.

Prediction - 75

This is the key, will keep an eye on it.

I think he will get a few games next season but it will be hard for him to slot into the 22 every week and will likely cop some vests again.
At this point he is on the watchlist

Hes gotta stand up and do more if he wants a midfield rotation. Its not going to be gifted to him.. We need more from him as a high draft pick!

Well that just puts me right off. Surely there will be rookie options with better JS to go for. Unless Sheed does a Hutch, I'm going to be steering clear.

"It has been good" Sheed says of his second pre-season. "I have pretty much done all of the pre-season, other than missing a couple of sessions, but it has gone really well."

"To make sure I'm not slacking off and I have been doing a lot of technique work with my running and my speed. Hopefully you can see that come game time."

"I had a program to do in the pre-season to try and get a bit bigger, so I put on a couple of kilos which is pleasing. Hopefully I can throw a bit of that weight around come game day next year"

Just the current progress of Sheed, I'll continue to update as more news comes in :)

Mr.Craig

I think that predicted average is a bit optimistic given he didn't reach 75 once last year. I reckon it will be closer to high 50's.

This kid is a gun, I always under-estimated him. However, a friend of mine played against him at Nationals, their coach picked him out and ordered the players to prevent him from accumulating any possessions. At half-time he was only on 11 possessions so they celebrated, by full-time he accumulated 41 possessions.... with the tagging attention

Will be a gun one day, may still need time to adjust at AFL level. Simpson loves midfielders with a bias so he will get opportunities (ridiculous how much mids WCEs initially had, then he goes along and drafts 4-6 more hahaha).

Hope so!! Sheed, Duggan, lamb, cavka. Future mid right there.

Don't forget Waterman  ;)

Also add Lucas

If Lamb, Waterman, & Duggan couldn't play additional roles (forward, forward, & half-back, respectively), I would say it was excessive  ;) . Overall, a strong draft crop - looking forward to seeing Duggan & Lamb play (Lamb was a bargain at pick 30 something - my bet for the next Westhoff)
