Simple question, which younger members of the team outside the best 22 have the best chances of breaking into the side this year or next, which (if any) are likely to be 200 game players over their career and who is likely to have left the club by the start of the 2017 season? Was thinking about this last night, but I don't know as much as others regarding the depth of the playing list to give myself a good answer.

So far we have:

Nick O'brien
Jason Ashby
Tayte Pears
Shaun Edwards
Jackson Merrett
Alex Browne
Zach Merrett
Elliot Kavanagh
Dylan Van Unen
Martin Gleeson
Lauchlan Dalgleish
Sean Gregory
Will Hams
Kurt Aylett
Orazio Fantasia
Frazer Thurlow
Johnny Rayner
Ariel Steinberg

Can't see any obvious stars in that list. I think Gleeson, Aylett, Edwards and the Merrett brothers are the best chances to be regular inclusions in the side this year, particularly the Merretts on the back of last season. I think Thurlow may have the potential to be a best-22 ruckman somewhere in the AFL but I can't see Essendon being that club in the immediate future. Gregory may be given longer to develop. I don't think Pears can break back into the side this year after missing a lot of football. As for the rest, I don't see them as having much of a future at the club based on previous form. Delistings?

kilbluff1985

really hurts Kav hasn't developed much

but

Ashby and Browne are highly rated at the club

most of the guys on that list people say have potential and i like the look of our new Irish recruit

i think we are going ok and picks 17 and 19 this year in a good draft

hopefully we still get Jake Long somehow like in rookie draft maybe

we have a few father/son guys next year i think

Is it too harsh to say all of them?

And is this implying that Kommer is already best 22, cause I really rate him, but had injuries this year or whatever

Gleeson and Z Merrett are the only stand outs to be 200 game players.
Gleeson not locked in either.

???

Mailman the 2nd

There are a bunch of teams who have handfuls of players in there best 22 who aren't future 200 game players. Essendon aren't too different

Very true.

the Merret brothers have the potential to be 200 gamers...first game this year Jackson had 30 disposals I think...they just need consistency...which is understandable because they're only young
