Man I thought football starting last night would fix my appetite, all it's done is awoken a demon inside me that just wants to look at stats and analyze game footage. With one game down, it's slim pickings.

as far as the match in a week I'm actually rather happy I get to see as many kids as possible

Essendons team is pretty stacked with the additions of Gwilt and Cooney. Unless suspensions rock the AFL world and Essendon have no choice but to use rookies and top ups, I don't see Laverde or Langford holding a spot. Thats not to say its not possible..... Z Merrett last year for example. If a kid is good enough, he will hold his spot. Will Langford from Hawks is a prime example as well. All reports have Laverde as a steal at pick #20 (Rumors had him as high as Collingwoods pick 5 mix) So he very well could be a jet. Time will tell. fortune favours the brave.

As most people say in a non committal undertone, see what he is like in the NAB challenge.

Shut up you idiot cow

At the draft Essendon laughed at Carlton for not picking Laverde

I believe the Bombers rated Laverde a bit higher than Langford, but took Langford because they thought the Blues were more likely to pick him and let Laverde slip. Worked out well :)

MUSCLES IS BACK!

But the club will also call on six more players from its VFL list, including former Essendon rookie Marcus Marigliani and Jordan Schroder, who played five games for Geelong.

Medium tall Josh Freezer, talented flanker Anthony McDonald-Tipungwati, ruckman Sam Tagliabue and Heppell, a midfielder who knows his way around contests, round out the squad.

Yeah howlett would def be emerg, I took him out for ambrose. Needed extra tall, so giles given the right form would work also.

I just like Ambrose work around the ground and his physical presence/tackling, one does not simply escape the arms of a dude who benches 150+

Ambrose or Giles will line up as the third tall each week. Will depend on match-ups and confidence in Belly. Daniher can give a chop out when needed, Carlisle can too if desperate. An injury to any of them and they'll both come in.

Dempsey probably has first dibs on the HBF, but it's his spot to lose. Dalgleish waiting close behind, don't know how far back Aylett and Ashby are.

I reckon Gwilt is lining up to take Fletch's 3rd defender gig. Steinberg and Pears still have a while to go.

It's hard to fit both Howlett and Hocking into the 22. Both have always been locks, and Hirdy loves Benny as a midfielder as well. Tough decisions to make on who to leave out, but the obvious plus is we now have some decent midfield depth.

I think the teams above are pretty spot on surprisingly. Winders and Cooney can go back, so can BJ and even Heppell if needed, so we won't start an extra defender in the team, unless it's someone versatile like Gleeson or Edwards who can play back and forward. JMerrett, Kavanagh and Melksham all next in line to come in (and take the green vest).

Gwilt is definitely the fletcher who can play tall or small, last year if we had gwilt to replace fletch instead of Steinberg (not bagging Steinberg) we would have won that North Melbourne game.

I expect big things from melksham this year

Any chance that Colyer will be in the best 22 at all?

Firmly entrenched in the best 22.

I don't see how we are gonna fit everyone in with the recruitment of Gwilt and Cooney.

Pears is fit again....

Obviously no idea whether he is even up to our best 22 anymore.... but he sure was stellar at his peak 4 years ago.

I really think Hurley will be used off half back. With Gwilt and Hooker in lock down roles. Hibberd and Hurley have damaging rebound disposal. This will also aid in our delivery to the fwd line.

They will play Giles and rotate him with Belly from Ruck to fwd line.

I see Howlett, Melksham, Dempsey, Gleeson, J Merrett, J Ashby and Dalgliesh all vying for a spot. With a fully fit 22 of course. Licka and Hocking are out for Saturday, so Howlett would be in for Hocking you would think.

But I really think Hird loves Gleeson. As do I. He will be in at any opportunity to give him more game time.

Gee we have a packed list at the minute.

Gwilt wont get a game over fletch, hird will start howlett because they're gay for eachother, melksham will also play.

Pears is fit but hasn't had a pre-season. He needs VFL practice and game time.

Winderlich I fear wont play a game all season, don't think his body has it
