with trades done will give this a go

B:   Baguley, Hooker, Fletcher
HB: Dempsey, Hurley, Hibberd
M: Cooney, Stanton, Goddard
HF: Zaharakis, Daniher, Chapman
F: Giles, Carlisle, Winderlich
FOW: Belly, Watson, Heppell

I/C Z Merrett, Myers, Kommer, Colyer

it's really tough i never really rated Hocking i don't like taggers he is unlucky though and so is Howlett

Cooney, Z Merrett, Myers, Kommer, Colyer, Hocking, Melksham, Gwilt and Howlett all fighting for bench spots

ADEZ

Pretty impressive starting midfield, I still rate Cooney really highly and a great get by you guys

Southstorm

Have seen a lot worse as far as teams go, that's for sure. Hopefully we won't miss Ryder too much.

AFEV

The age of the midfield rotation is a concern.

Hocking and howlett in
Dempsy and kommer out

Play cooney off the half back line instead of dempsy and I don't think after a year off kommer will walk straight in.

With hocking and howlett in I'd play chapman purely in the forward pocket, hello 40+ goal season

Depending on the team Giles and ambrose will be fighting for a spot.

J.merret (in his 4th year ready to break out) and Gleeson you can add to the list of players pushing for a bench spot.

kilbluff1985

Giles and Ambrose wont be fighting for a spot i doubt they will want to play Belly by himself and Giles would be a much more consistent forward imo

Kommer i agree might have to show form in VFL but he might show enough in preseason games don't forget he was our #1 player for pressure acts in 2013 very valuable

silloc

I just think ambrose plays a role very well and his efforts are 110%, against a side without a strong ruck department it might be a consideration. I'd also like to see him have ago at some defensive roles, him against a reiwoldt type would be perfect.

Kommer pressure was good, but I think Z merret and Colyer filled that void this year. They're very much all the same type of player (maybe not so much colyer).

would like to see Gleeson blooded a bit more also, he might not get leather poisoning but the way he moves through traffic gets me hard

Southstorm

If Gleeson has a few decent feeds between the end of last year and the start of this year, he'll probably be able to hold down a half-forward role a lot more regularly.

Anyway, the only changes I'd have would be swapping Chapman and Winders, Dempsey out of the team altogether, Cooney to the half back, Zaharakis to the wing and Gleeson/Melksham/J. Merrett to the half forward.

kilbluff1985

i thought Gleeson was playing half back lol

Yep my thoughts exactly about cooney off the half back to replace dempsy. and also chappy pocket player, would barely even run him through the midfield

Fantasia and Gleeson need to eat a flowerin cheese burger or two.

Also winders will probably spend a lot of time starting as the sub I reckon

We certainly drafted him as a back but he's been playing half forward in the VFL a lot. We've got a lot of half backs but not as many good half forwards so I'm guessing if he's promoted he'll play there.

At the end of the day best 22 isn't going to matter come round one, injury and preseason form will turn everything on its head

lol sorry

Mr.Craig

The question I have about Essendon is where the goals are going to come from? They were ranked 12th for average goals last season and have lost their fourth and seventh highest goalkickers.

2    Jake Carlisle          27
3    Paul Chapman        22
4    Patrick Ryder         20
5    Brendon Goddard    17
5    Brent Stanton       17
