It is legal, as his movements were influenced by the movements of the batsman, or something like that. Basically, if the batsman moves to anticipate/play a shot, the fielders can also move like Smiddy did.

it wasn't just that last over either. took a nice catch for the 8th wicket, ran a guy out that wasn't counted (threw it to Faulks, but Faulks missed the stumps first attempt and got them on the second but no one appealed so the umps didn't go to the 3rd umpire) and that would've been the 9th wicket. then bowls a double wicket maiden for the win!

I would only have a problem with it if Smith was in front of the batsman. But since he was behind and not in the vision of the batsman it is fine
