I've been trying to understand why they would take McCartin and can see why
Nroo - signed on but getting on also
Lee - not big enough to be a power fwd
Membrey - unproven
White - bucketloads of talent
Sipposs - plenty of question marks

Gun power fwds are rare, and McCartin is pick #1 material.

The coming drafts apparently lack key forwards and filled with midfielders

Petracca didn't test well at all and some think he may have dominated because he was so much bigger than the rest

That just what I've picked up so far

I've heard the talk that Tracca might not have a ceiling like some of the other prospects. Greater than a lot of the other kids now but in 10 years time will we be saying the same?

Probably just adding to Rico's point about size.

its gonna be petracca. No way are we going to pick a key forward into a forward line of Riewoldt, Lee, Membrey, White, Siposs, One of the resting ruckman
Yeah, I feel this is exactly it. Sure MccCartin's a gun and St Kilda could use him, they have Lee, White and now Membrey. Although, McCartin is a closer match to Riewoldt than the other three.

And Membrey isn't a tall forward but still damaging. I believe in White, and if we pick up McKenzie at 21 it would be shower hot.

There's all the talk about this manchild stuff with Tracca, but take a look at Ollie Wines and Luke Dunstan among others over the last few years. Having size on your side will obviously help against kids, but it's also going to have you in good stead for having an immediate impact at AFL level.

neither were mentioned in the same breath with pick #1 though man. And can't really judge based on their first two years.  I'm not saying he will be a bad pick, just trying to justify their decision if they go with McCartin

But looking back, do you think that clubs would have taken them earlier having seen what they have done in their first couple of seasons?

I know you can't base everything off their first couple of seasons but I think it holds them in good stead for the rest of their career. McCartin will be a good player no doubt but I think Tracca will be as well, and will be earlier.

looking at it.  2012 I'd only take Wines before O'Rourke, Plowman and Toumpas so he'd still be around the 4 or 5 mark. Mayes and Menzel were taken just after him also.

Can't say the same for Dunstan because we're only a year in so a lot can happen and he was taken a lot later. But he still wouldn't crack top 5

Petracca is just what we need though. That little bit of size and x-factor through the middle that we lack.

I guess the view is that the coming drafts will fill that void and a power key fwd is needed from this draft

Richardson said a couple of months ago he believes White and Lee can fill the void of Nroo. And that we will be taking the best player regardless of position and role.

I somehow get the feeling PK should be put on suicide watch if Tracca isnt taken at 1.

Could be because most of the phantom drafters are all sheep so once person switched to McCartin at 1, they all followed ;)
