Wonder if we can turn him in to fwd/mid.

Don't know heaps about him except that he kicked a few bags for the Swans reserves. Looking at his size, shape and creds reminds me a bit of Siposs... He that sort of player?

Update from the AFL live feed:

11am: St Kilda sound very keen to offload their No.1 pick for the right player. Hard to see how that can move it on without a star player in return.

Absolutely crazy if they were too.

FS

Excited about the prospect of Membrey. Do you think if we get him, it would mean we would not trade Pick 1 and we would pick up Petracca.

Pelchen on Saints twitter tonight at 7pm;

http://www.saints.com.au/news/2014-10-06/chris-pelchen-twitter-takeover-tonight

So he will be answering questions from the public? Or just telling us crap? I got no idea how Twitter works..I might have to get it

Pkbaldy

Few of the questions asked last night! On a side note, I hope we seal Membrey by the end of the week! 3rd rounder should do it.

How many players are we planning to take at the National Draft?
@dacoopman Four to five players.

If we don't trade 1st draft pick can we still get 3 picks in top 21?
@smccinoz Yes. #AskPelcs

If you were to trade pick 1, would it be most likely be traded for a player or picks in the draft?
@LukeN_99 More likely to involve draft picks than a standalone player. #AskPelcs

Does the club consider this years draft pool to be shallow compared to last year?
@desb85 No. While 4-5 players have been widely spoken about at the top end, there are another 20-25 players who represent a strong pool.

About David Armitage and same answer for Jack Steven
@t_sorati5SOS We don't like to make close-ended statements on anyone, suffice to say it would very, very unlikely that David will be traded

About Ahmed Saad
@SamTyrrell25 Ahmed is having ongoing communication with the club via his management & will be considered to re-join us at the right time.

About Tim Membrey from Sydney
@Housey1712 Tim is a mobile forward who can play both high and deep roles. We anticipate he'll play a similar role at Jack Gunston at Haw.

About Tom Lee
@Kelzdab Tom has been limited by injury over the last 12-18 months, hence we are still (to see) the best from him. He still has a role to play.

About Lenny
@I_am_DWalt We are still very keen to have Lenny involved in some capacity next year, but he is still working through a number of options.

About Adam Schneider
@sebbroome We would welcome Adam remaining with the Saints subject to sufficient list positions being available #AskPelcs

About Arryn Siposs
@kristianmuhll Arryn has had a difficult year due to injury, but he is determined to return to the seniors in 2015. He's already training.

About Daniel Markworth
@heals29 We're still very encouraged by Daniel's footy ability & anticipate him returning to push for AFL selection next year. #AskPelcs

About Nakia Cockatoo
@predathor98 Nakia (Cockatoo) was a standout performer at the #AFLCombine & is creating widespread discussion among clubs this week #AskPelcs

About Adam Cockie
@DireenMark Adam (Cockie) had another strong season with the Zebras and will be discussed further like a number of @sandyzebs players #AskPelcs

About Cam O'Shea
@dewah07 Obviously Richo and Cam worked closely together at PA so there is interest in him, but we have other priorities to explore.

About Jeremy Cameron
@dsouness Jeremy would be a welcome addition to the Saints, but he's currently contracted to GWS & I would suspect unlikely to move

About Terry Milera
@Viper_Alvein Terry's name was raised with both SA clubs today & we will support his return home for personal reasons #AskPelcs

About Peta Searle
@lwjohnstone Peta has been a great addition to the club. She is professional, committed, & displays outstanding initiative. #AskPelcs

About Jason Holmes
@kristianmuhll Jason Holmes' development across 2014 was a welcome surprise to everyone at the club. He'll be seriously considered in 2015

About Joey
@saintcman Leigh (Montagna) is contracted and required beyond 2014. #AskPelcs

About Eli
@sjcameron7 Eli's injury rehab has been positive and we anticipate him pushing for senior selection early in 2015 #AskPelcs

About Christian Petracca
@jamesfisher999 Christian has been an outstanding performer at U18 level this year & will certainly come under strong consideration

About our plan for 2018 given the changing landscape of the game
@JDstewart33 Our strategic plan is based on successful models at recent premiership clubs. We are confident it will position us strongly!

He's only played 1 AFL game so its hard to tell.

From what I know of him is that he played as a key position forward in juniors. Since going to Sydney he has kicked over 100 goals in the two seasons. On top of that the last half of the year he has been pushing in to the midfield more (making the 50 odd goals this season even more impressive). He's meant to have a really good kick on goal but I haven't seen anyone talk about his kick around the ground though.
Would really like him to be tried as a 70/30 fwd/mid type. He certainly has the body to do it.

EDIT: Richo just said thy will try and build his tank so that he can go into the middle. Apparently Pelch has said (I personally did not hear it) that they want him to play like Gunston.

From the Saints Footy Facebook page.

Summary of Alan Richardson's interview on Trade Radio
Pick 1 - Keep or trade?
We'll do what is best for the club. The interest from clubs isn't strong enough yet but it's early days.

Tim Membrey - Should get the deal done and the Swans are helping. He is a mid sized forward who can play up the ground.

Ahmed Saad - He is 'in the mix.' He's worked hard during the year with a personal trainer. Just depends what happens in the draft.

Happy with the players brought in, in 2014?
Delaney has been terrific and Bruce is getting better. Would liked to have seen more of Templeton and Acres. Billings and Dunstan were very good as everyone knows.

What are you selling to the fans and potential recruits?
The important thing is to communicate with the fans and we think we have tried to do that. We are 'stockpiling' elite talent to build over the next two to three years. Hawthorn did that with the Franklin, Roughead era when they were down the bottom and now we are doing that.

Tom Lee, Rhys Stanley and Spencer White?
They are all key forwards and take time to develop. Tom and Spencer have had plenty of injuries and poor preparations. They need to get games into them and have solid pre-seasons. The Saints were this year at their best when Rhys was working well with Riewoldt. In our wins, he played well. His season was not too bad and another pre-season will help him.

Hickey and Longer? - Billy is good in the centre square and will need to work on his spread. He also had an interrupted pre-season so a fit Billy will be good. Tom started the year well and is good around the ground and forward as well. We will benefit from a fit Tom Hickey.

Pierce and Holmes - Happy with both and in particular Holmes who will be probably getting a run in the NAB Cup in 2015.

Lenny - definitely wants a break. He is a new father and will also be working with the AFL next year but Richo will certainly be knocking on his door. He's a Saints man and the work he did with Dunstan was superb.

Biggest challenge as a senior coach?
The amount of time not spent with the players, either with the media, sponsors or just dealing with the whole admin of the club. He knows that is part and parcel with senior coaching but that has been the biggest difference between this year and previous years.

So at the moment we have pick 1, 22, 41, 60, 78, 96, 114. My guesses of what we will use this picks for.

1. Christian Petracca/Paddy McCartin (90% sure we will get Petracca if we keep number 1. But McCartin is clearly the best forward in this years draft so expect the unexpected from the Saints)

22 .Reece McKenzie/Alex Neal-Bullen ( Most like will pick up McKenzie if he is still there. But the Saints might already have plans for Tom Lee and Spencer White to fully take over for Nroo, next best would be Alex Neal Bullen, looks to be an absolute jet!

41. Nathan Drummond/Caleb Daniel ( Two completely different players, I like the look at Caleb Daniel, but at 168cm tall be might not fit into the AFL too well, but it hasn't stop short players before. And Drummond a local love for me, injury set him back but when I saw him play he just used the ball so well out of that backline, no idea what the Saints would use him for but he would be surely welcomed to the club

60.Tim Membrey ( We will use this pick during the trade period to pick up Membrey, should be good to use him and Petracca as forward running midfielders/flankers, future looks good for the Saints if we pick up both of them.

78. Eli Templeton (Rookie Elevation, he hasn't shown too much yes, but seems to be pretty promising)

96. Darren Minchington (Rookie Elevation, He's shown us what he is capable of doing, hopefully next year he can do that on more consistently as he should be getting more games)

114.Cameron Shenton (Rookie Elevation, this guy has been on the rookie list for 3 years, and has deserved his spot as a senior player, going to be pretty good to watch him play at both ends of the ground, just needs to read the play a little better)

BoredSaint

think we're still trying to trade our way to 3 picks in the top 20/21 or something. That will give us 3 gun players for the future.

I don't understand why they're so set on this though... It's like they think they can't find gem picks in the 3rd/4th round....

Gwilt signed with Bombers.

Good for him! Now I just hope Jones finds a new home. Sort of wish we just signed the 2 up to be on the rookie list... guess not.

Wondering whether we might have been able to get something for him if we'd tried to trade him rather than delist. Can butcher the footy at times, but has also played some pretty good footy and will be very useful for the Dons.

Dons won't want to given up pick for him, they'll need every pick they can get......

A Summary of the Tweets by St Kilda FC on behalf of Ameet Bains

The trade period overall has been quite different this year. A lot of contracted players are open to move which is different.

Tim Membrey has committed to coming so we are still working on that deal with Sydney. If a trade is not done for Membrey we can acquire him in other ways. I can give the guarantee he'll be at St Kilda in 2015.

It is important to know we didn't delist James Gwilt officially. He went to Essendon as an unrestricted free agent.

Cam (O'Shea) is a contracted player at Port so I am not sure anything will be happening there.

We are open to seeing where Ahmed Saad sits at the draft. He has been working hard.

Tom Boyd is a contracted player at GWS and they have made it clear they won't be trading him this year.

Both our NZ recruits had injuries at times this year but they are going well. Joe Baker-Thomas had an ankle injury. Giovanni Mountain-Silbery had a shoulder injury playing for NZ under 2Shoenmakers is a contracted Hawthorn player so a bit would have to pass. We haven't had strong discussions/interest in him 3. But they are both going well.

Taylor Hunt isn't in the frame at this stage. As things stand, there is not a strong likelihood of that happening.

We will be transparent with the no.1 pick. Three clubs have approached us but not with overly enticing offers yet. There are 3-4 big trades waiting to land and once they are done there might be something more concrete put to us for pick one.

Adam Cockie has been a strong performer at VFL level with Sandringham but we have less priority on inside mids.

The SA clubs haven't shown great interest (in Milera) so far but it might be something that runs down to the wire.

Our second round pick now is pick 22. The philosophy of getting three early picks is still the same (with the 3rd pick being #22)

Sam Gilbert is going well in his recovery. He has put in a wonderful amount of work and we are hoping he is ready for round one.

Schoenmakers is a contracted Hawthorn player so a bit would have to pass. We haven't had strong discussions/interest in him

Whether Billings goes into the middle next year or in 2016, we are confident he has the abilities to be a midfielder. Jack exceeded our expectations last year. To play 16 games was fantastic.

Petrenko is not a player on our radar.

Nakia Cockatoo could be available at our second pick. He is back up and running and tested well at the combine.

We discussed Caleb Daniel in our recruiters meeting recently. He has been terrific this year for South Adelaide.

Richo has been privy to discussions and is having an input to discussions. He will be better placed after spending a full year at the club.

Spencer (White) has a lot of potential. If he performs well we can talk about extending that deal but there is a balance that is struck.

McCartin has had a terrific season and will have a good AFL career. We consider many factors with our decisions around no. 1.
