Good on them, there was no chance that he was staying (it's just the risk with drafting interstate), esp. with Beams, Christo, & Robbo all coming in. The sooner the rest of the Lions coaching staff become aware of this, the sooner they can focus on matters of importance. Brisbane fans seem to think Aish's resigning as a matter of pride... You recruited Collingwood's 2nd best player, there is no pride lost if a rookie departs, certainly considering that in two years prior there were 5 players comparable to Aish departing & no-one of value coming in.

Good on Swann for stating the obvious and cutting through the shower. There is no real reason for Aish to stay, if he wants to resign, then it's at his discretion. If not, Brisbane won't even notice because they will be more focused on pressing issues (like the game against WCE this weekend)

What do you think will happen to our expiring contracted players.

James Aish returning from injury - Suspect he will ask to be traded.
Jed Adcock - Should re-sign
Rohan Bewick - A required player who should re-sign but a trade request would not surprise,
Mitch Golby - Given that he is unable to cement a place in the 22 he may also request a trade.
Ryan Harwood - Would be a required player and suspect he will re-sign but like Bewick a trade request would not surprise.
Berger - Probably playing for his career in the second half of the season and if does not come up may be trade bait. Trent West returning may also put pressure on
Matt Maguire - has retired
Brent Staker - Has been effected by injury over the last three seasons. A difficult one here as we know what he can do.
Paine and McGuane have both been injured.  Paine is promising and may get a contract renewal but would be reluctant with McGuane.

My bet is the Lions will get a good deal for Aish.

Adcock is like Sandi, Pav etc. he is either retiring or staying (still too young to retire)

Bewick should stay, if he were to request a trade it would be back to WA (good luck getting a game in either of those teams - career suicide). Golby will probably be in the same position as Bewick (could trade them with Carlton to get a bargain gun).

Berger will stay if he gets the chance - least of Brisbane's concerns now that Martin is replicating last seasons form (there were doubts but I think he's proven he is a genuine first class ruck)

I think Staker will do the right thing by the club and retire (his injuries are becoming a financial burden and at 31 he doesn't have much to offer)

Paine should stay.

McGuane is a spud hahahaha Leppa needs to cut him and state that it is not personal (apparently the two are very close).

Taking most of these players out of the equation, I think Brisbane has a really strong list (would probably steal a few games against the Victorian clubs if they weren't disadvantaged by constant travel - like 7 other teams in the AFL (starting to think that was a reason for the expansion clubs - 2 weeks less travel for all interstate sides)

Great to see the club working to keep promising youngsters with Harris Andrews extending his contract till 2018. Ryan Harwood has also re-signed till 2017.  Hope he has a better year next year.

I thought that everyone was homesick  ::)

Hard for Andrews to be homesick if he's from up that way :P

Wants a trade to Aspley :P

What do peoples think of a possible straight trade being mooted Aish to Carlton for Qlder Tom Bell? Personally would prefer a bigger target up forward such as Tippett or similar.  Bell is only 187cm so not the tallest.

Leppa said Redden has no intention to leave so I would personally take his word for it because he said the same thing about Stefan Martin - when the rumours were all that he was guaranteed to go

I would bet on him staying - has more than a leadership role to lose if he moved clubs

nrich102

People actually listen to what Damian Barrett says?  ???

I guess I'd take Bell, but he's not really what we need. Looks like we won't be getting Dixon :(

Okay Leppa, like every other coach, has lost credibility with me when saying "this player will stay"  :P

It seems every coach says it, but only 10% of the time the player actually stays

Personally, I think Brisbane are better off this way and they at least get something in return if they trade this 'gloryhunter' (I don't see any other reason why WCE would be his preferred destination than glory hunting)

Apparently we said we aren't overly keen :P

Poor Redden haha

Cannot believe it but it is looking more likely by the day that Aish will be staying. I thought he would definitely leaving since midway through last season. The problem is that he wants to go to Collingwood, however there are no guarantees as they are prioritising with Treloar.

I think Richmond now look the greatest threat. However, they are prioritising with Yarran & Bennell.

Starting to look like he'll have to stay - if he extends his contract by more than 2 seasons, I don't see him ever leaving the Lions - they should offer him 3-5 years
