Profile

I'm sure I wasn't alone in not paying Newnes a great deal of attention in 2014 but he had a pretty healthy breakout, increasing his fantasy average by 22 points and scoring over 100 five times. Some have suggested he is a future leader of the club and he's signed a contract extension through to 2017. His scoring was certainly inconsistent and that will continue to be a concern but the real interest comes from the fact he played a good deal of football down back, increasing the likelihood that he will gain DPP status in 2015. This is important given that many of the back premiums are nearing the end of their usefulness as fantasy players, some young blood is just what we need and Newnes could be one who pushes into the top 10 for that position if he becomes eligible.

Pros - Good ceiling, 13 games over 20 possessions in 2014, solid stats across the board

Cons - Inconsistent, gets jobs on opposition players

Prediction - 81-86

Didn't realise he had such a good year until the other day. Certainly went under the radar

Spinking

A lot of Saints fans rate Newnes, but I'm still to be convinced. Probably came on the most of our 2-3 year players in 2014, but I wonder whether he would be racking up those numbers in a top 8 team.

Probably will still improve in 2014, but not likely to be at a price that would entice me.

Sweetness

In that awkward price bracket.
Keen to watch him next year though.

A lot of hype on Newnes this year. Still not entirely convinced. Possibly more risk then reward at this stage. Just can't see him upping his average enough to be a lock.

Football Factory

Just a Nab game but not a bad start for Newnes.

21 disposals, 8 marks, 1 goal, scored 94

Looks like he will get his fair share in the midfield this year so even if he bumps up his average by 5-10 ppg he'll still be a 85-90 point player and that will do me just fine. Sooo much upside with him.

Mr.Craig

I still think 90 will be a stretch for him but I'm definitely sold at this point.

I know this i about Newnes, but Geary is looking the goods too.

I just worry about Geary having more of a defensive role.

Will have to see what happens when they play a full strength midfield.  Saints used to run Gilbert and Fisher both as decent back options, maybe they can get the double going again with Newnes and Geary, with Fisher playing that defensive role.

Geary always tempts in pre season haha, always smashes out a ton or a big score in the NAB or round 1, and everyone jumps on, but then he never delivers.

Rate Newnes much higher fantasy wise.
