I think the safest bet is to use Swan as an upgrade target and go with those we are surer of.

pommyadam

that's how I'm looking at it

if he performs well, then he may well be on my list of early-upgrade (though Goddard this season showed why that's not the best option)

Yeh Goddard dropped off last year as it wore on. It can happen.

Swan was a really interesting risk or reward type selection this year.....now he is just someone you basically have to pick.

is he though?

DPP will price him around the 500k mark, which means that he'll have to get back up to ~100 to be worth the cash
now, will he be getting back into the midfield (Beams has gone, but Adams won't continue to be sub, and I'll be damned if Greenwood doesn't play every game) so he'll probably stick forward

given that he puts minimal effort into NAB anyway (so you can't really tell how he'll be scoring) then it's a speculative punt if you pick him

based on this season: opening rounds
Brisbane: 96
Adelaide: 79
StKilda: Did not play
Essendon: 57 and 122 (122 in the anzac game)
Carlton: 102
so that actually rates him LOWER than his price (if he scored exactly the same as this year) - so he'd actually lose value by rd7 (93.7 season average, 91.2 average of that period)
plus he's another year older, and may spend even more time up forward

I personally will be sticking with the likes of Dusty/Lids, who are a lot more consistent and pose the higher ceiling (and are still key midfield components of their sides)
and from a more interesting note, it appeared that he'd lost his ability to score well this year - sure he was getting a few tons (8 tons in a 9 week period) but only 2 of them were over 120
he can still notch them up, but (in my opinion) the big scores that we know and love are behind him

also, you could've said the same about Dangerfield this season, but there were no end of coaches that were maddened by him (especially with a last-6 game average of only 89)

I accept what you say, a good argument for not picking him I guess...but will everyone look at it that way, I doubt it. Most casual players will just put him in the FWD line...and if scores well, everyone will pick him because we have 2 trades a week. Whereas if he was just a MID his ownership would be more unique. I think more of a DPP whinge than anything else. I just don't like seeing premos or even sub premos as DPP, makes the starting picks too obvious for mine....But good research of Swan mate...I might think again now  ;)

Wise words, my advice too would be to do this

R.Griffen

would be my advice also but then he'll go out and score like a 150 in round 1 making me look like an idiot for not having him

Mr.Craig

They are dragging the price releases out until Jan 19? Flower off.

And apparently it opens the day after.
Could say we are being impatient but that doesn't leave much time for "preseason" fantasy wise.

That being said, once the first team comes out we will know the magic number (and the #1 draft picks price) so could make quite good assumptions on the rest of the prices.
