what the lions need to do is get footage of a lion ripping apart the mascot of the other team. i would love to see a pride of lions ripping into a bomber

It would appear this was only briefly mentioned as an idea and media run with it. Looking at ways to assist with reversion of Guernsey to original Fitzroy Lion and was a suggestion.

Already a petition for this not to happen... Saying it's 'cruel'.... Don't see it much different then having a Circus in town!
Plenty of people protest against Circuses as well ;)

Love this tweet and quote from Lions Roar

"Sorry folks. We spent years campaigning for the return of the "real lion" and it seems Swanny took it a bit too literally."

if they got a mascot suit, filled it with steaks and then set a lion on it, I'd flowering buy brisbane membership on the spot.

Why would the Brisbane "Roar" help the lions? ???

At least this speculation has pit the AFL onto Page 3 in the Courier Mail. So it a marketing ploy to take focus of NRL achieved.

That's exactly what I think this is. I doubt we will actually be seeing real Lions at the game next year, but at least this, along with all the trade talk, is meaning that the club is in the news and being talked about.

"After considering the strong public reaction to the suggestion of having a real lion at our home games next season, the Club today took the decision to not pursue the idea."

So put to rest and got some publicity for the AFL in Qld.

Never realized that AFL was pushed back that much up there NRL apart from QLD and 1 team each from Vic and NZ is NSW even the Storm gets good coverage down here , but the best way to get the crowds up is winning look at the crowd in round 23 Pies and Hawks was 40 something thousand if the Pies were still in it 75 plus , Lions have had some good wins this year get Redden and Rich back snag a couple in the draft plus the young guys from this year and wild beasts will not be needed  ;)
