THE BRISBANE Lions are pursuing a "provocative" move to parade a live lion before their home matches at the Gabba in an effort to improve their supporters' match-day experience.

The Lions are speaking to zoos and lion parks - as well as animal welfare groups - to assess whether the club could push ahead with the unique game-day entertainment.

This would be awesome. I have a feeling it won't go ahead though :-\

Ringo

You just need to remember though that Australia Zoo are amongst our supporters with the Irwins being Lions Ambassadors so may not be as way out as it seems. So basically it would depend on Animal Welfare issues.

Yeah, same.

Can Richmond get a tiger from Melbourne Zoo and do the same?

Toga

I would be pretty disgraced if this was given the go-ahead tbh :-X

After Port have started the whole Never Tear Us Apart nonsense, everybody wants in on something like it.

St Kilda to get a hologram up of Mary Mackillop.

Maybe Freo could get an anchor lowered down into the centre circle.

:P

Sweetness

Interesting.
Animal activists will be all over this.  :P

I'm more referring to the fact they want an animal to be paraded around in front of 30,000 screamers every week..

I have no problems with pre-game entertainment like the Power have done, but don't think this is appropriate :-X

Nige

Nice tweet for Adam Rozenbachs, along similar lines to my joke above.

Brisbane Lions seek AFL approval to parade a real lion at home games. Looking forward to St Kilda parading Mother Theresa around. #AFLFinals

Think it would have to be caged can see lots of objectors to this

30,000? lol.

Ringo

Think it will be in a controlled manner.  Similar to what happens when Australia Zoo are match day sponsors and they bring some animals down to the ground.  Interestingly and to correct a previous post Australia Zoo do not have Lions so would need to be sourced from an alternate source or maybe is a marketing ploy involving Australia Zoo to introduce Lions to their zoo.

@Toga our biggest crowd this year was just under 27k and lowest just over 13k so 30k out of question unless we strat well next year.

Toga

Haha, I just pulled that number out of a hat. You get my point though, not sure it's ok for an animal to be paraded around in a noisy environment like that

shaker

Yeah could not see a Lion being led around on a lead it might get hungry half way around  :P

Ringo

As an aside to the debate did not think the announcement would bring the comment it did hence why i did not post when tweeted yesterday.

I personally reckon a Lion stationed at the away team entrance tunnell will be great to put the shivers up them as they run past.
