It would really provide some much needed clarity regarding the situation.

Carlton-esque?

Or Adelaide or Essendon

1996: Essendon Bombers (AFL)

A league and ATO investigation uncovered that the Essendon Bombers had breached the salary cap between 1991-1996. They were fined a total of $638,250: $250,000 in back tax and penalties, $112,000 for draft tampering and $276,250 for breaching the salary cap. They were made to forfeit their first-third round picks in the National Draft and were excluded from the 1997 rookie and pre-season drafts. They are the only AFL team judged to have breached the salary cap in a premiership year (1993).

Crows didn't breach the salary cap, with the deal we had with Tippet we were still under the cap. :P
Why were they punished then?

Not arguing, just genuinely interested because the AFL has, in the past, issued arbitrary punishments upon clubs for no reason whatsoever (e.g. the trading cap on the Swans for recruiting Buddy Franklin even though they didn't breach their salary cap, the COLA had nothing to do with their recruiting of him, and the club took the risk of having the smallest list in the comp. in order to acquire him).

The contract wasn't sanctioned by the AFL ie signed off by them. Which makes it all the more stupid by the club tbh.
All contracts must be sanctioned and signed off by the AFL hence the punishment, we deserved it no denying that and it makes the club look pretty dumb. Personally i've never understood why we wouldn't of done it all above board as it looks awfully suspicious but the AFL went through every other players contract and found everything was ok apart from this secondary deal with Tippett. Very disappointing as a supporter because once you're tarnished by something like that it never goes away really does it.

QuoteRELEASED North Melbourne veteran Drew Petrie has confirmed his interest in a move to West Coast, but he doesn't expect to know his future for another few weeks.

The Eagles are considering Petrie as a replacement for injured ruckman Nic Naitanui, who will miss at least the majority of the 2017 season after surgery on a ruptured ACL.

And Petrie believes he would be up to the task if required.

"They haven't given me any guarantees," he told Melbourne radio station SEN.

"They've scoped out my level of interest, and I think they've got a few other players that they've got their eye on.

"I think it's going to be a few weeks before they give me any guarantees or certainties, but I'm feeling OK at the moment."

What is this going to mean for the Pies cap though? Spite?

Would be really intrigued to hear his thoughts on this at the moment!

Come on guys no more baiting please, that'll do :)

Vardy linked with a move to Port Adelaide as Ryder/Lobbe insurance. Could see himself playing tall fwd too with behind Dixon and ahead of Westhoff if a move does happen. Undergoing a medical and then it'll be off to the trade period, shouldn't cost more than our 4th rounder hopefully the bloke has barely played!!
