Why not?? 3 years @ 500k is a longer and more expensive deal than Waite got and only $100k behind the overall money that Higgins left for?

Because in reality he was an unrestricted free agent, Really if an unrestricted player leaves no matter the cost or contract length a compensation pick shouldnt work.

Who comes into the Sydney line up for Mal?

Probably Laidler or Jones. Rohan and Shaw become the rebound defenders while Laidler can play 3rd tall with Rampe. Jones played a bit off half back in the games he got. Johnson would have been the one you think but having another reco you think it would be one of Laids or Jones. The other option is McVeigh goes to half back and Tom Mitchell moves into the midfield rotation.

My money is on Laidler. Played most games even with Eski in the side and just seems the logical replacement.

Doven says that Howlett was considering his options had Hird been sacked, however Howlett has spoken to Hird in the last 24 hours and looks likely to remain at the club.

James Hird has also today said that Paddy Ryder will remain at Essendon if a trade cant be brokered.

i prefer the mcveigh option. an extra mid into the rotation and mcveigh who is one of our best users putting the ball where it needs 5o go.

Ha! We offered Didak for him and they rejected it! So glad that happened!

Pretty sure it was the other way round, Port asked for Didak and you guys refused. Worked out well for you in the end though ;)
