They also traded their 2015 pick for Dangerfield. So that's no first round picks for 2015, 2016 and 2017 (currently). I think this means they'll HAVE to trade in a first round selection either in 2017 or 2018 to ensure they have 2 first round picks in the 4 year period 2015-18 (the one they trade in and their 2018 one).
But this is where it's wrong. What if they don't trade for one next year? $1,000,000 fine? 4 points taken off their ladder for the 2018 season? Has to be a proper punishment if teams are allowed to trade out the future on the promise that they will trade one back in the next year.

Agreed, honestly the penalty should be massive (like you said) so that teams are almost forced to pre-plan trades a year in advance.

Honestly the entire league could just screw Geelong next year not give them a first rounder, or alternatively, make them pay massive overs for one.

Quote“I kind of knew that (being traded was a possibility) going into the off-season, so it definitely wasn’t a surprise and there’s no hard feelings â€" it’s just the way it goes,” Bogut said.
“So I think the AFL’s probably going to end up being similar to the NBA I reckon just because, albeit disappointing when you do get traded and you’ve got to kind of pack a bag and go to the next city, at the same time what’s happening in the AFL’s not fair to the clubs either.
“The players can kind of pick and choose where they want to go and demand to be traded somewhere (and) that’s not fair either.
“So there’ll be some common ground I’m guessing in the next couple of years with their CBA and all that.”

Bogut's take on the trade period.

Tippett and McKenzie delisted by Norf

McKenzie played 14 games this year so seems a little stiff imo

the teams should hold out but the thing is it requires every team to do so, even if geelong paying just a lift over then some team will jump on it because if they dont another team will.

Gary Ablett went to the Gold Coast Suns at the start of the Trade Period and asked to be traded back to Geelong.

Suns said no.
