Was cam wood first round? ::)

So was Hendo, but both he and Wood are gone so that would leave Aish and Docherty

If Brisbane still had Academy picks we would get rid of the go home factor.

Um, you do still have academy picks.

@Meow Meow & Rico - they are actually fair points. I think we have focused too much on the fact that they were traded 2nd round picks, or later picks, and not enough on the players they recruited with them (they have actually done really well in the draft).

Yeo only cost the Lions a second round pick originally (Harbrow compo pick that they got for Sherman :'(). Longer had not shown anything to suggest that he was worth a first round pick (still hasn't) and the Lions are better off with McStay. Polec hadn't done a thing. Docherty was the only one that was still worth a first round pick when he was traded out, the others lost value because of their performance so clubs would be crazy to pay the same as Brisbane did. It's like Plowman at GWS, nobody will give up pick 3 for him now because he's simply not worth that much anymore.

I reckon Billy Longer was pretty good this year. He isn't elite but he showed a bit and is only 22. He will hit his prime in a few years and that is when we will get a good judge of how good a player he really is. The thing is had they not traded Longer they wouldn't have been forced to play Stef Martin.

I agree though that the collective of guys they brought in is better then the guys they have lost. I made the same point when the Redden news first came out.

Aish + Treloar for Collingwood would be a huge offseason in terms of trading.

I'd be happy to then sit and back and let the next 2-3 years unfold, because without being bias we are building a mighty impressive list with players all over the ground. Will be a premiership threat by 2017-2018 I think.

Toovey, Frost, Brown
Williams, Reid, Langdon
Sidebottom, Treloar, Adams
Elliott, Moore, Swan
Crisp, Cloke, Grundy
Witts, Pendlebury, Greenwood
Aish, De Goey, Varcoe, Scharenberg, Fasolo, Oxley, Broomhead, Macaffer, Marsh plus others

That looks unreaaaaal, 10 top 20 picks (Aish, Shaz, De Goey, Treloar, Adams, Pendles, Sidey, Broomhead, Grundy, Reid, Elliot (first round pick trade), who are all super talented. The future looks very very bright

Actually I want to make a couple of other points on rucks. Just for perspective, Billy Longer was traded with pick 48 for 41 and 25.

In the same trade period

Mummy was traded for pick 35
Big Boy for pick 18 and Savage
Hammer for pick 32
Jesse White for pick 44
Trent West for pick 41
Josh Bruce (kind of odd but I guess it counts) for pick 48

Mummy for that pick is pretty ridiculous so I can't complain if I am Brisbane with that trade considering the context of how rucks were valued in the time frame.

For example even their value in the draft had also taken a huge hit and teams were looking at only bringing in more experienced players at the position. Excluding Daniher in 2012 since he was a father son and looked at as more of a forward, the number one ruck prospect in that draft was Grundy and he was taken at pick 18, the following year Apeness was the first ruck at pick 17.

Shame that Aish is going to carlton 8)
But that could be a premiership contender next year :o
What about Grundy?

Just out of interest, who is 'Hammer'?

SA fans associate the sobriquet 'Hammer' with a specific player (just want to know who Victorians associate the name with)

Agree we still do but now due to Victorians agitation we have to match bids for them rather than having the priority access we have had previously. So expect and first or second rounders we receive to secure Keays and Hipwood. Interestingly now that we are starting to see benefits from the academy restrictions start to get placed on us. Andrews and freeman are the first academy to play Senior football for us.

Dogs interested in giving Bian Lake a part time specialist coaching gig. With Talia on the way out we should offer him a year or two and make him reconsider retiring. He's still good enough.
