Off Season Trade Rumours

Remember as GL has said Beams is requesting a trade. Similar to our go home Boys last year requesting trades we had to take what we could get and in my opinion could have got more for some of them. Pies screwed us with Paine for Karnezis so can not expect us to give more for Beams who wants to come.

Brisbane are rebuilding after the go home boys in losing 5 developing players and can not afford to lose any more and this is the real sticking point Pies want a player and Brisbane can not afford to give a player. That is why I think a third club has to become involved to get the deal done.

I really do not want a situation where we trade players who do not want to go and destabilise the club like we seen with the Fevola trade with players wanting out.

Deep down i do not mind if we do not get Beams this year as we will get him next year and Pies get nothing which would suit me fine to stick it up the pies.

Not sure how I feel about the O'Rourke deal, considering Hawthorn is essentially getting a #2 draft pick with a few years of development for a very late first round pick... I know he's had his injury troubles but surely GWS would've had other offers for him!

he nominated Hawks as his preferred club
Doesn't mean thye have to trade him there though if they are getting much better offers elsewhere

This ^

I don't understand the "preferred club" argument, it's basically making these young kids free agents. He wanted to go to a Victorian club, why wouldn't the Giants just go and say to the Victorian clubs O'Rourke is for sale, best offer gets him.. I dunno I just don't like it.

And yeah, the Beams/Lions situation is similar to the Ryder/Essendon situation...

Ryder and Beams want to leave their clubs, and while Port/Brisbane want to recruit them, they didn't go asking them to leave the club. Both Essendon and Collingwood have every right to play hardball, but in the end, they're gonna have to take what they can get or lose their players for nothing in 1-2 years time.

They're the same age Ringo, both born in 1990 and both drafted in 2008...

Jack Redden - 9th December 1990

He'll be 24 year old for all of season 2015

Dayne Beams - 12th Feb 1990

He'll be 25 year old for all of season 2015

For all intents and purposes Redden is 1 year younger than Beams.
haha well 10months younger :P

but yeh, AFL clubs don't look at it that closely
Born in the same year, drafted in the same year, same time in AFL. Can't really go into it much more than that

they do look at it. It's not like a "yeah that'll do"

Players retire on their age and how their body feels, not which season they're drafted in.

You also have to consider the fact Beams is a lot more injury prone compared to Redden. Redden had played over 100 consecutive up until this year's injury. Beams has never played a full 22.

Coaches will also be taking that into account.

Yep they'll definitely look at injury history. But they won't put much into whether a player is born in February or December when they are still so young and both born in 1990. Maybe if they were 30/31 and they were comparing the two in a trade but at this stage of their careers it is minimal.

Spite

Why do you keep saying the Pies screwed you over Ringo?

Paine was developing nicely for us (and we could have used him this season for sure) while karnezis in injury prone, has OP and didn't play a single game.

I think it was a pretty fair trade, no need to be so mad.

meow meow

The Pies are just waiting to see what Brisbane get from GWS for Patful. There's talk of it being pick 19. Pies want 5 and 19 instead of 5 and 25.

Just think we could have done a little better Similar to your situation with Beams we were asking a little more and this trade was one of the last done for the period as Karnezis wanted to go home and nominated Pies (Do not agree with young players being able to nominate clubs and my views on that are well known regardless of which club). Think we were asking for a pick and you offered the player from memory.

Will Offer Paine back to you with pick 5 for Beams if you still think paine was developing well.

And just mad at the moment as neither side seem to be moving much in their demands. After all should not players welfare be the main consideration as what was thrown at us last year.

Summary: Opinions on the value of Beams and Redden.

To add more fuel to the fire...

Been thinking about this, and it's unlikely a deal will arise here.

Pick 2 + Pick 3 FOR Dangerfield was knocked back.

So, surely Beams HAS to be worth more than pick 5 + pick 25?

you cant compare the scenario we know Beams wants to go to Queensland will end up there one way or another we don't actually know if Dangerfield wants to play for Melbourne or even leave the Crows and he is a bit better then Beams imo but maybe not much

Fair call, different scenarios. Beams wants to leave. Just a thought.
