The Swaggers and Falcons are folding in the British competition. Rather than seek new coaches I am proposing we reduce the British Competition to 16 Teams.

How to do this fairly is the problem so I am putting this proposal out for discussion and comment.

We reinstate our lists to 45 players.

For this year only the following to apply.

Teams to delist Players by October 5th. With no limit of players that can be delisted/retired.

There will be a draft in finishing order for a selection of one player from the teams relinquished. Remaining Players from both teams will go into the left over pool in Rookie Draft.

National Draft will be 4 Rounds only and only players in the National Draft will be available for this draft. Bottom 4 Teams will have an additional priority pick at conclusion of Round 1 of the National DRaft

Rookie Draft.
Teams will then have sufficient draft picks from all left over players, rookies listed and left over National Draft players to bring lists to 45 players.  That is if say after National Draft you have only 30 players on your list you will have 15 selections in the rookie draft.
Obviously Players do not go onto Rookie list so also for this year only 4 rookies must be named with final list lodgement in priority order.

Should there be any delistments retirements of players after October 5th from your lists a compensation pick will be granted following all selections in the rookie draft.

Risk will be coaches may delist too many players and be weakened but judicious de-listings.  There should be an additional 60 players available to select from along with de-listed players.

Rookie Draft picks will now become valuable for trading as well so you can see why all delistings have to be done earlier.

Please feel free to comment or offer alternate suggestions.

if 2 teams are folded after the delisting date we will be able to delist more players before drafting from the folded teams? i assume so

#2
Purpose of PM KB was to ascertain teams to be relinquished so we would know prior to September 10th if we have to go down this path.  So we would know prior to delisting date.

Have also stickeyed this - realise we have a lot atm but will clean out over the next few months as threads are completed for year.

Ringo

We have now confirmed that 2 coaches are stepping down leaving the Swindon Swaggers and Newcastle Falcons without coaches for next season.

The only addition/alteration I have thought of to the above is we have 3 trading periods,

A short first trading period to 5th October giving teams the option to benefit from players they may wish delist.

Delistings to be finalised by 5th October and not as previously published.

Draft then to take place from relinquished teams as above.

On conclusion of draft 2nd trade period to commence.  Drafted players may be traded in this period if desired,  Final Rookie Draft order also to be ascertained for trading of picks,  2nd Trade period will conclude on Tuesday 25th November,

3rd Trading period will commence on conclusion on Rookie period and conclude on date TBA start of preseason fixtures.

Please comment on these suggestions in first post and this post as I will need to put out for vote and ant delays will shorten first trading period.

Prority picks and single draft to remain as above.

Dont think the bottom teams need priority selection out of the talent. As you said they can already beat top teams on there day and now your giving them two extra superstars?

Whilst I said that and I said best team reality is they do not have the depth of the Top Teams to cover injuries etc  and this is a way of them getting that depth and making the competition even more competitive.  Bear in mind these 4 teams were also getting priority picks in the National Draft.

btw i can see Vinny jumping for joy lol
The bottom four are Owls (Vin), Breakers (nrich), Giants (Nails) and Steins (Memph)

Looking at the Falcons and Swaggers, one is on the older side, the other has mostly youth.

The Owls and Breakers arguably don't really need the players (both just got unlucky through injuries), the Giants and Steins probably need some of those players although I'm not sure they'll want too many of them.

kilbluff1985

i was just saying there is 1 or 2 players Vinny would kill for

But what about the mid tier teams 8-12?

If they get two superstars along with top 4 nat picks they will fly past the mid tier teams. If you need to give them depth then give them priority picks at the end of the first of even middle of first

kilbluff1985

yep i agree priority picks at the end of the 1st round is reasonable exactly like our NAT Draft

they will still get good depth players

If the Breakers for example got guys like Bontempelli, Jobe and Stokes for example, that makes them easily a top 8 team.

So yeah, JB has a point.

Ringo

I hear your arguments and I take the point being made.

So how about this

We just have the 1 round draft in the descending finishing order and then all players go into the rookie draft.

The Priority Picks remain at the conclusion of Round 1 of the National Draft as per original rules.
