Is he eligible to play for Freo at all seeing as he didnt get elavated?

Sort of.

Fremantle have 4 players that are on their Long Term Injury List, (Grover, Thornton, Ruffles and Solomon) in which case they are allowed to elevate rookies to replace them until they are off the LTIL.

Also, with Solomon being retired, this means that the rookie elevated to replace him is available for senior selection all year.

So yeah, Silvagni can still be elevated and play round 1. Hell, he could even play all 22. Though at this stage, he's still just a rookie.

I'd expect he would be elevated until Grover returns.

Has been reported he has been elevated.

Essentially the rookies elevated today are, for all intents and purposes, senior listed players for 2010.

The other way a rookie can be eligible for senior selection in Round 1 is to 'replace' someone on the list when they are placed on the LTI; Silvagni could easily replace Solomon for the entire year, or he could replace Grover until he comes back... Then of course there is the 'free' (without placing a player on the LTI) mid season upgrade of any rookie the club chooses to the senior list.

So the mystery of whether Silvagni (or Moles, Kaylor-Thomson, Pearce...) will be playing in round 1 isn't solved quite yet...
