As it's coming to the pointy end of the season do u think teams like Sydney and hawthorn who have all but locked in a top 2 finish baring a upset will look at resting playes before the finals.

colmullet

im pretty sure Sydney have come out and said they won't be resting, they dont really have a track record of it either.

Have the even all but locked in a top 2 spot? Last I checked 3 teams are on the same points. Do you think any of the top 3 teams want to risk dropping a game and losing a home final.

all but locked in a top 2 finish?
you know Geelong have exactly the same points as them both right? (and Hawks play Geelong rd22)

Mr.Craig

If Geelong are locked into a Melbourne final by Round 23 then I can see them resting a few against Brisbane.

I also said baring a upset, freo are 2 games behind those 3, swans have saint, bulldogs and tiger so how many of them do u see them loosing? So Geelong or hawthorn wld have to loose 2 of the next 3 and freo win all of their games which could happen I guess but u would think unlikely, so say geelong finish 2nd and hawks 3rd the game will still be played in Melbourne .

?Will Geelong and Hawthorn both drop one game so as not to meet Sydney in a home final (Sydney vs 4th place) and play in Melbourne.

Ahhh, no?

If they play sydney in sydney and lose, they'll have to play the following week against the winners from 5th to 8th. However, if they purposely drop out of the 4 they'll have to definitely play two games back to back and have no shot at a rest.

So basically... no...?

my point was that you said Sydney and Hawks are basically guarenteed top 2 unless there's an upset
and yet you've got Geelong on the same amount of points as them (granted with a poorer %age) sitting in 3rd
top 2 isn't guaranteed, particularly when 2 of them lock horns

that aside though, IF hawks beat Geelong, then I can see Hodgey getting a rest in rd23 (as he hasn't had one since rd8, other than the split round) especially as he's getting on a bit now

I think people are too paranoid about resting players. Obviously had Freo players Round 23 last year

The split round has only just been so every player has already just had a rest. Only reason to rest now would be for minor niggling injuries where the injurye would benifit from the rest rather than the players overall recovery.

I had Barlow hahaha  ;)

@everyone: Freo's resting set a precedent. Remember how much Lyon's & Freo came under fire for resting against St Kilda. I don't think any team wants that same attention before finals. The ladder is too compact as is, I doubt resting will be an issue this season   :)
