I get the idea of a 'premiership tilt' or whatever you wanna call it, but I don't see why a good team can't have good depth as well. Nails went hard at a premiership for like three years, didn't win and has kinda paid the price for it.

Personally (key word right there), don't like the idea of sacrificing depth just to have the best starting XV.

RaisyDaisy

If anyone is after a depth defender, we have Heath Grundy and Spud Firrito

A depth mid in return would do it

Agree I didn't want to. I wanted to use the picks to get swan and chappy for my depth and keep Boak and zorko in my starting squad. But couldn't trade picks for players. So I had to either use the picks or upgrade my starting XV and using the picks doesn't help me now.

Wait why can't you trade picks for players?

Ringo

Same reasons as stated for trade rejections Team is too strong bringing in Chappy and Swan even if only for 2 seasons. I thought first round picks for these aged players is ok and even if other rounds added.

Yep that's it, was a fair trade but went down as Dublin can't make these moves.

Sounds like another club in the AFL Trade Period #Sydney #TradeBan

The thing is though Dublin is not decreasing their depth by trading their picks away. This is something Holz has been very clever at in the past imo - trading picks and/or players who will not be Best XV or probably in the next 2-3 depth players but have plenty of potential for players that will improve his best XV.

For example from last season - there's a whole heap of potential that Dublin is trading out here and picks but a whole heap of gun players coming in. It's actually really well done from Holz and why his team is so strong now (and his EXV team was unbelievably good even though it didn't win).

Dublin trade: Jesse Hogan & Sam Docherty
Moscow trade: Michael Walters & Jack Darling

Dublin trade: Jaeger O'Meara and Pick 31
Moscow trade: Nat Fyfe

Dublin trade: Aaron Black, Shaun Atley, Pick 10, Pick 49
New York trade: Grant Birchall and Tom Lee

Dublin trade: Zac Clarke, Tom Lee and Pick 67
Moscow trade: Charlie Dixon and Robert Murphy

Cairo trade: Shaun Grigg
Dublin trade: Jed Anderson

Dublin trade: Jack Darling, Jed Lamb, Brad Hill and Lachy Plowman
Cape Town trade: Jobe Watson

Pacific trade: Tom Rockliff, Luke Delaney and Pick 78
Dublin trade: Jack Redden, Michael Hurley and Sam Day

Dublin trade: Nathan Fyfe, Mitch Clark, Lachie Hunter
Berlin trade: Lance Franklin, Nick Dal Santo, Tom McDonald

I actually think that based of last season's results Dublin won every single one of these trades though longer term they may well lose some of these.

Out: Mumford, Everitt, White, Lamb, Armstrong
In: Franklin

Happens in the AFL too.

I'll take offers on Roughy and Sloane again, since there is an unofficial Sydney trade ban on Holz and it will probably fail again. I'm not complaining, I am willing to trade these guys to any team that makes a similar offer!

Memphistopheles

We would have given more than that for Broadbent :(

Just going to have to accept the fact that no-one will trade us a decent defender. Oh well if Haynes, O'Shea, Higgins, Pittard and Gwilt all stay fit next season we should manage.

JBs-Hawks

So would i if he replied to messages ::)

the issue for me is I need more high quality depth as a few injuries and im in major trouble but I have been unable to get it

Dublin Trades: Tom Rockliff + Robert Murphy + N57
Dublin Receives: Steele Sidebottom + Shannon Hurn + Daniel Wells + Josh Saunders + N84

This weakens my best XV quite abit as Rocky should beat Sidey by 15 and Rocky should beat selwood by 5-10 so thats a loss of 20-25 points. Hurn if anything will make up only 5 on Murphy. The rest is to increase my depth so a 20 point loss to increase depth just in the form of Wells and Saunders. This weakens my XV quite abit but was disallowed.

Dublin Give: Pick 12 + Pick 21 + Luke Delaney + Shuan Grigg + Sam Frost + Neville Jetta + George Hewett
Dillos Give: Dane Swan + Paul Chapman

neither Swan or Chappy will be in my starting 15 and will be back ups on both line. I overpaid for one because Nails was getting robbed by teams knowing they had to sell and secondly because I need to do this for trades to pass and third because of the cap. While im trading away alot of players my quality depth increased but again this was rejected.

Nige

I think the idea of 'high quality depth' is what irks people. Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of it.

You've got arguably the best team in the competition and few injuries and whatnot would obviously bring you back to the pack which you've acknowledged. Happened to PNL in 2013 and we saw how good they can be with a bit of luck, similar situation at Cairo as well.

There's nothing wrong with trying to get the best list though, that's partially what this whole thing is about, I'm just not a fan.  :P

Hellopplz

PNL sucked for the first 2 seasons Nige, we get unlucky in matches and with injuries regardless :(. We are like Richmond, will never live up to their potential :P.

Nige

Maybe somebody has to try and do AFL to WXVs comparison.  :o

No, I'm not offering.  :P
